How do you legislate a minimum rate on a system based on performance? Even if you get $5.00 per mile, there's no guarantee you'll get X amount per week. If the carriers in the US went to the shippers and said "We're required by law to pay our drivers X amount of money so we'll have to raise our rates", the shippers will most likely ship shorter distances and try to break the law by cramming as much product onto the truck as possible. Of course they do this anyway. Everything comes back to making a profit. The customers will ultimately pass the costs onto the consumers, and this will lead to higher prices. Everytime the government tries to legislate how business is done, they always screw it up for everybody.

Further, the freight to be moved FAR excedes the capacity to move, hence our b double, road train and soon b tripple combinations.

The report and suggested actions were given to parliment last week.
I just recieved a phone call and all the ministers voted it through.

now there are bodies that dont believe that we didnt organise ith within ourselves to cripple the larger co's, and that we are in fact not O/O.

sour grapes at being called to heel i think..

There are plans to show us as a group of people united by cause but not being driven by anything more than trying to sustain decent life and bottom line.
