A plan to abolish the northern NSW fuel subsidy will make it harder for truck companies to compete with those in Queensland, a trucking body says.
The NSW government announced the subsidy would end on July 1 in its mini-budget delivered on Tuesday.
The subsidy, which was introduced to enable petrol stations this side of the border to compete with the subsidised fuel price in Queensland, ranges from 8.35 cents per litre in Tenterfield to 1.67 at Urunga.
Australian Trucking Association (ATA) NSW manager Jill Lewis said the decision would force NSW trucking companies to increase their freight rates or reduce their margins to stay competitive with Queensland companies.
