If you really want an solid understanding of Averitt, go to a truck stop or drive to one of their yards (they are everywhere) and ask the drivers specifically. I personally know a few. They all love the company but they all have had a few speed bumps along the way. Trucking company experiences are really what you make them out to be. The people I know, understand that Averitt has its good and bad points BUT everyone of them have been there for years. What I do know about the company is this... You will get an automatic.. Some of their dedicated routes will work you to death (dollar general comes to mind).......Their trucks are well maintained and you will RARELY see one of their trucks broken down on the side of the road..... Their pay scale is competitive with some of the higher end companies out there..... Hope this helps

I got a chance to talk to a buddy of mine who has been with Averitt for fives years. He said all trucks have APU's..... The newer ones have elogs but the older ones have paper logs (this is slowly being phased out to all elogs as they replace their old tractors...... All are double bunks.... Everyone he has seen have inverters.... The volvos have an engine Jake that work really well (he isnt sure about the frieghtliners though),.... Averitt doesnt allow you to take your truck home....... All their trucks come with EZ pass....... Averitt does most of their runs in the continental US (in five years he has yet to go to canada or Mexico)..... All drivers get weekends off unless they specifically request to work two weeks out...... It is requested that you refuel at their yards, since all their yards have fuel depots, secure night time parking and most have shower....Hazmat is not required for Averitt OTR or regional runs And thats about all I know...

There is another thing. Averitt has yards all over the United States. The company does both LTL, TL, OTR, Regional and dedicated, so there anret to many areas where you wont be able to find one of their yards to go to if you want a peaceful/Safe night sleep!

Dbrober, Thank you for your well worded and thoughtful post! Your words all ring true to what we have experienced from Averitt over the last 4 months. Hopefully I can write more soon, for now I am one tired Mama headed to sleep Lord willing. Many thanks for you taking the time to reply so very nicely!

I've been considering AVeritt mostly because of the equipment. For me, having an APU/inverter is mandatory and my left leg is getting to the age where having an auto is very attractive. I no longer have the need to be a gear-jammin'-super-trucker and I've spent enough hours jerking along on the I90 parking lot in low gear in Chicagoland for hours not to want to repeat it.

So far, the only bad thing is the terminal nearest me is in Kalamazooo; according to one recruiter I spoke to, they have either regional-dedicated or Midwest regional spots there because of the amount of freight in the Indy-Chicago lanes. I want to see more than the Great Lakes states. Maybe later...

Talk with more then one recruiter, or better yet talk to a few drivers if you see them on the road. In my area "Carolina's" you see alot more then the local states even though they tell you that you will mainly drive a preferred region. Recruiters will tell you what they know, HOWEVER, they arent your dispatchers so they cannot really be held to being accurate about where you will make runs into. Thats cause most of the recruiters are not drivers and have never done a trucking route in their life. So what Id tell you is ask around from those who know, (like the drivers).. Go visit a truck stop and ask a few. Chances are you will have your answer very quickly!

I have talked to many (well, maybe more than several) Averitt drivers; they were all regional or dedicated because they wanted more time at home, which isn't so much an issue with me. But I do know how waiting a bit and re-asking the same question can often get a different answer.

Hazmat is absolutely required, within 30 days of hiring. Most of the computer training in orientation is hazmat.
