| 1300 miles in a week? What do you do the other 4-5 days a week? At those miles they need to be paying a buck a mile to OTR drivers. |

| How much does averitt pay per mile for a newbee out of school. I saw they have student positions and I am evaluating my options. Also about the clean cut image, i dont mind shaving but I have long hair that I could put in a ponytail and tuck under a hat. I was wondering if this would be acceptable to them. I dont want to cut it because half the appeal of truck driving is the freedom to be myself and while I could deal with shaving and uniforms I am not ready to cut my hair for a corporation. |

Sorry man--but if you work for Averitt, you'll have to cut your hair. I went through orientation with a guy that had tats on his forearms and he had to wear sweatbands on his arms over them. Now when you get out on the road, you don't have to worry as much, but watch yourself at terminals, etc--there are tattle tales lurking. Now as for pay, I think the new guys get .31-.32/mile? Not certain its been awhile.. |

| ^^If that is the case, they need to step up their pay package if they want to attract some quality drivers. I am seriously considering going to Averitt after working for Schneider for almost two years. They trained me and I thought I would have moved on by now, but they implemented company-wide raises earlier this year, and that is the only thing keeping me from going to Averitt right now. If I were to do it now, I would be making .02 less per mile. Next month I will qualify for the same pay rate I get now due to me having a full 2 years experience. Any advice a current Averitt OTR driver can give me? How is orientation/what to expect? How is freight right now? What are the usual freight lanes for someone running out of Charlotte? Do I have a good chance of getting a good truck (APU, lower miles)? I just have a lot to consider since I am not a job hopper. I need a company I can grow old with. Thanks for any help. |
