JBS trucker, yes I'm at CarMax in Chattanooga. Selling between 12 and 15 cars a month. It's a good place to work. To be really honest I miss driving. I get to take my grandson to school everyday though, and I sleep in my own bed each night. I may end up back with Averitt on a few months though. The benefits are inexpensive and really good. We shall see.

DG...what are you talking about? My thread was real life experience day on and day out. Not all car sales jobs require you to lie and rip people off. For you though I'd make an exception. Lol

I had two family deaths within two weeks last march/April , so I dealt with that and reopened my plumbing company for the meantime. I also miss driving I was just four months into it. I also have a family and the benefits are a big deal.

Unless they put you in an '06 or older and pretty sure none are left except day cabs.

If you want to be a truck driver in the modern age today, you are gonna have to drive an auto, and that's a good thing. More and more companies are switching their fleets over to autos, Millis new trucks are autos, heard Swift is switching to all auto fleet too in the near future. Autos are good for drivers cause they are less fatiguing, they are safer cause the driver can concentrate more on traffic instead of having to have a single thought in his head about shifting, and the really big one is the better fuel economy they get.

This is the age of self driving cars and advanced technology, to be driving an old fashioned manual transmission is kinda silly and backward.

Know how hard it is to buy a car from Toyota, Ford, or GM with a manual transmission? They are a special kinda hobbyist item, 99.9% of cars have autos. In 5 years it will be the same way with International, and Volvo trucks and every other heavy duty truck manufacturer - 99% of what they will be producing in the near future will be automatic transmission trucks.

Well said. Abilene Motor Express is another all auto company. More and more are headed that direction.

Ah, the wisdom of youth. Well, call me silly and backward but both of my Mustangs are V8s (5.0 & 4.6) with 5 speeds and if I buy another it will be a 5.0 with a 6 speed. My old Ford pickup has a three on the tree. There are plenty of us left that enjoy being part of the drivetrain.

And I really don't like the idea of a self driving car. I actually enjoy driving and don't consider it a tiresome chore to get from A to B. And please don't call me a hobbyist, whatever the heck that is.

When 99% of cars sold are automatics and a person likes to drive a car with a manual transmission, well that person is a hobbyist and a very specialized limited market.

Why make the job of truck driver harder than it has to be? It's hard enough already. Automatics make the job easier, and more importantly save the companies money, that's why they are going to be taking over the industry.

I remember the same old tired supertruckers whining and crying just about 5 years ago saying "By God I ain't gonna drive no dadgum truck with an e-log in it! This technology is not gonna work! It's crazy! NO!!" And now all companies of any size use e-logs, the same thing will happen with autos. Yes sure you will always be able to find Big Bubbas trucking company that has 5 trucks and doesn't have elogs or soon autos, but they will not be the norm.
