Being a hobbyist would imply one participates in a hobby such as building model airplanes or collecting stamps, not having a preference for operating certain types of equipment. In most cases, operating a vehicle is an occupation, or a necessary means of transportation, especially folks in rural areas.
I don't call myself a supertrucker, which you seem to use as a derogatory term, but yes, I am one of those guys that complained about the advent of elogs. I was also complaining in 1992 when the CDL was imposed, along with mandatory drug testing, neither of which accomplished anything except add additional operating expenses to feed an ever growing Federal bureaucracy. And although I was a few years away from being a trucker, I complained about the Federally mandated 55MPH nationwide speed limit.
Although I grew up in an era when it was the norm for teenagers to change the oil in their cars as well as repair them and learn how to drive big trucks when driving schools were a rarity, that doesn't mean I am opposed to technological advances. It just means I grew up being a hands on guy who was outside engaged in physical activity rather than playing video games with joy sticks.
I've worked for plenty of Big Bubbas, as you call them, and most of them are decent folks. They will be missed by many of us who enjoyed the days of doing west coast turns without somebody virtually looking over our shoulder.
Got on with Averitt. Got a few questions to drivers.

i dont where you come up with the idea that automatics are cheaper thats not the case it still has alot of componets in it that seem to go bad more often and they are harder to work on cuasing more down time for truck

I got hot going forward once in a stop and go traffic jam. If it goes too long it will shut you down and you have no choice but to sit there and block traffic.
I had one go out in the middle of a busy intersection with a cop raising hell out me and finally had to get a wrecker. -
And the programming in the Volvos will get weird, locking you into high gear. All you can do is hope you can find a place to coast to the side of the road and sit there for five minutes waiting on it to reset.

mustang i run out of the win terminal i had a cascadia and would get hot just backing to a dock, now i have volvo a little better gets hung up and wont shift so i have to do it manually.just bring back the 10,13 speeds ill be happy but that wont happen.i think many companies are switching because so many new drivers dont know how to shift without tearing the trans up

I don't know who put the insane idea in your head that we were all a bunch of wild alcoholics. Nobody was out here committing vehicular homicide and going unpunished. That is a highly irresponsible assertion. I have over 33 years of safe driving to back up my opinions. Why don't you share your background and/or qualifications with us? I bet you gleaned your vast knowledge from the internet or from some washed up driving school instructor who couldn't hack it out here with the real truckers.
Btw, the multiple drivers license thing is highly exaggerated. The CDL is not a Federal license. It is issued by your home state and we had the technology to check for multiple licensing without creating another costly, unnecessary government agency.
I'm wasting my time talking to you anyway. I bet you are in your 20s and have the world all figured out.ryan7659, SOAthor, chopper103in and 2 others Thank this. -
