On another note... I saw some footage of a recorded conversation between a driver and his dispatch office where he talked to 3 different people on the same call.
The scenario is that the driver had taken a 10 hr break, was told to take his empty a few minutes/miles down the road and take another 10 hr brk after being fully rested after the first 10 hrs. He was given a load after the second 10 hr brk and began showing signs of fatigue. He calls dispatch and records the conversation and posts it to YouTube. The people at dispatch were aggressively encouraging the driver to continue with his load even after the driver told them he feels he is unsafe to drive after being awake for 17 hours at that point. He was told to go out and do jumping jacks in the 10 degree weather...get some coffee, etc. The driver received threats during the course of the phone call which would certainly impact his livelihood. Ultimately, the driver stood his ground and did so in a very humble demeanor.
Sadly, it seems this may happen a lot. I'm wondering if Averitt would put a driver in this difficult position. I sure hope not.
Averitt and what's allowed in the truck.

In 18 months with Averitt I had a handful of times when a situation like this came up where I had to sit long after a ten and then run an LTL load overnight. If I got tired I sent in a messagse that I needed a nap for safety reasons. I grabbed a couple hours and hit the road again. The only response I got was " be safe and keep us informed." If I would have gotten a response like this guy at K&B did I would have been on the phone with safety the next day. I don't foresee Averitt pulling any crap like that. They never did with me anyway.

Hey Mike. Do you still work for averitt? I am still attending school but I had my phone conversation with corporate last week and find out tomorrow if I am good to go with Averitt. Reading your post help put me over the fence to go with Averitt. Do they offer referral bonuses, because I would sure give your name if they do.

Jerrybye, I left Averitt in July and took a non driving job, but I appreciate the referral offer and I am happy my posts have helped. Averitt is a great outfit and a super place to start your career. I am considering going back to driving and if I do it will be at Averitt. They treated me well. Like all Truckload divisions, there are times of frustration but it sure beats the mega carriers. Good luck!
