Avreitt's "OTR" is really just a regional; they say they'll get drivers home every weekend, but don't believe that always means you'll be home from Friday evening till Monday morning...that kind of depends on the fleet manager, or dispatcher. They do LTL (less-than-load) which means the trailer is full of pallets for more than one delivery/customer, and Truckload.. full trailer usually on a dedicated account (Dollar General etc etc) only going to one place at a time. On their dedicated accounts, the driver typically has to unload the trailer, so if he doesn't want to be involved with the physical labor side of it.. this is probably not a good way to go for him. ( Heres an example of how the unloading is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBFQR2lXxjw ). Since there is more work involved, he will typically make more than the LTL guys who make more stops, but don't unload.
All this info is what I gathered from the recruiter I talked to a few weeks back. If I'm wrong on any of the info I'm sure someone with the experience working with them that I don't have will correct me.rhaiynebow Thanks this. -
Thanks!
@Eddie Kingpin...thank you so much! He's definitely NOT interested in the unloading if he doesn't have to. He's getting older, and because his job was very physical prior to him becoming a truck driver, he was actually looking forward to getting away from that. With this info, we'll likely have to rule out Averitt.
@08international...we are about 20 miles out from Sturtevant...just across the border into IL.
edit: Because apparently I can't spell tonight -

Averitt has a terminal in Milwaukee, Niles and Burbank. 99% of the freight in T/L is no touch. Averitt does pay for LUMPER'S. Averitt T/L has many GRAY HAIRS driving their equipment. I work with a 64 year old 98lb Grandma, she has no issues. Averitt has one of the insurance packages out here.
I've been with them over 10 years in T/L, while I get frustrated at times, I can't see myself driving for anyone else at this time.rhaiynebow Thanks this.
