Nah, still no luck with trucking. I've taken a traveling inventory job with WIS for now so I can start getting some paychecks in again. Going to keep looking. Might take a refresher course once I get some $ saved up so I can get jobs a bit more easily.

SO... been an eventful week. Everything was running good until Weds night last week. Start having severe issues with the truck lurching and loosing all gitup n' go... 17 miles from the Dallas SC I lose the tranny. Call breakdown and sit for a while to reset the transmission. Get it going again and limp my ##### into the SC. Come to find out (*as per the diagnostic laptop) nothing is wrong with the truck except I slipped the clutch 4 times... (HINT, HINT)

Do my 10 on the yard and pick my next load to go back home.. Remember that hint? Hmmm... yea, I didn't make it 1/2 mile before the service light kicked on for the tranny again, so I limp back into the SC and call breakdown again, this time I'm not moving. The night mechanic does his thing and tells me the clutch is gone and will need to be replaced... (gee, I kinda thought that 12 hours ago) SO long story short... 9 hours gom by and my FM callls me...

Go get moved into your new truck...Leadership isn't sure now if its worth the money to put it into a sinking ship (so-to-speak) The Volvo was at 602K and due to be removed from service. So, I move into a 2012 Freightliner Cascadia. The same kind I trained on, so I'm pretty familiar with it, thankfully. BUt I hate to say it, I was getting attached to the Volvo pretty quick, but hey... I can't complain so far... Jim (my FM) and I had a talk about my running miles. I'm flexible at home and can be his little pack mule to make the runs that need to get done.... His only response...

Tighten up your seat belt! LMAO

2800 miles last week and looking like close to the same this week... Sitting in NJ waiting on a live load of paper going to Wisconsin, so that's 950+ miles
Can't wait to see what the rest of the week holds...

Hey Nukem, I am going to be starting with averitt next month. I will be out of Richmond though I live like 5 min from the portsmouth terminal. You have any advice before going. I'll be picking your brain over the next few weeks.

Have a positive attitude, even if your having a bad day.
Treat the truck and equipment as if it's yours
Be flexible and be prepared to adapt to changes in load assignments
Find a good butt pad to sit on
and learn to like that god awful truckstop coffee. :biggrin_2559:

I guess someone really didn't like the fact that I was doing something to the truck to enhance the appearance to keep it clean. I was told yesterday that the caps are not Averitt equipment and to take them off. I didn't get fussed at or in trouble, but the owner himself told my FM that they needed to go as someone sent him a picture of my truck. But whatever... I'll hold on to them, and who knows maybe I can use them later on... Still gonna keep the paycheck maker clean though. :yes2557:

If your talking about the 9/11 Stipend that Werner, Schneider, and a couple of other are now starting to do? Meaning, I work for the company and get full BAH for 6 months then 1/2 for the other 6 while collecting a pay check from said company? NO, Averitt doesn't do that and personally I wouldn't do it anyway. I would be losing almost 2/3's my 9/11 GI bill for one years work and once that year is up, so is my GI bill.

But Averitt does give back UP TO 1500.00 towards your CDL school, if your coming right out of a class. They also reimburse you for the initial HAZMAT endorsement as well.

If I didn't answer your question right or I was unclear, please let me know. Sometimes my ramblings can be kind of like herding cats. :biggrin_25526:
