Talk to your leadership about it. Even though its not on the jobs list, I pretty sure NFK would take another TL person.

Might also help if you can go up to NFK itself and talk them. They may also be able to put in a word or 2 about it. Don't quote me on that part, but it wouldn't hurt. :p

Hey Nukem, been following your thread for some time. I am fresh out of the service after 24 yrs. Trying to decide between Averitt and Maverick. Are you happy with Averitt? Did you ever consider any others? I read where Averitt has gyms in many of their terminals? How often do you see those terminals?

I am very happy with Averitt and I also looked at:
Con-Way, Abilene, Werner (Don't bother), Schneider, McElroy, and a couple others

I choose Averitt for a number of reasons:
    - Uniforms (I was already used to wearing them and this way I don't have to bring a supply of clothes. Just what I need for off duty at the SC's
    - Service Centers... ALL OVER THE PLACE! and to answer your question, out of 5 day on the road I see one just about daily. I may not shut down there for my 10, but I do shower, fuel, wash the truck, etc... and yes gym equipment is in MOST of the bigger SC's. Nothing major, but it's nice to work up a sweat if you want to. Plus I have one very close to me so I don't have far to drive at the end of my week. (I run out of Norfolk and live in Va Beach)
    - Weekly home time. A BIG plus for those of us that have done deployments (Myself have done 13 in my time in) But I can stay out for a weekend if I want, as long as the Fleet Manager says ok and they have the runs (which so far I haven't had a problem with that) But I do have a GREAT FM who pretty much plans out the whole weekend for me in advance so I'm not sitting long.
    - Truck 100% auto smart shift. I learned on a stick, but they do grow on you, and they aren't as bad as people make them out to be. But each person is different.
    - Benefits. I am not using they're bennies at all, since I am retired and have tricare, VLGI, etc... but they have some very good packages with pretty decent rates if you so choose.

Pay is pretty much industry standard, but one nice thing, after 6 months of working with Averitt they give up to 1500.00 tuition assistance back to you if your hired fresh out of class, like I was.

As everything in life; nothing is perfect. I've had good weeks (high miles) and some not so much, but it comes with this type of job. but the Benefits, SC's, Leadership all make up for it.
If you have any other questions, feel free to PM me or post them here for others to see as well, I'll answer as quickly and honestly as possible without sounding like I'm on the Averitt recruiting band wagon. :biggrin_2559:

How's things going Nuke? Figured I'd see how you were still liking Averitt since I should be in Tennessee before the end of the month!

I'm still with them so that means I still like it. LOL Some days are better than others, but that's how it goes... Hopefully you will be in orientation soon; then onto your training; then your own truck.
