I have been told that I will get my package a week prior to my start date, but (I assume) like most people I want to be prepared before hand. Besides what is listed on the website, what am I going to need to bring with me? As the website states:

Besides the required information / materials noted in your orientation packet, be sure to bring the following:

    x
    x
    x

I have the website lists, but what is different in the package vice the website?

    Thank for any info

I cant remember what was in the orientation packet when I started but it will basically be whatever the website says. You don't need a lot of outer clothing because youll get uniforms during orientation. Just mostly make sure you have all the documentation they asked you to bring when you talked to the recruiter and whats listed on the website. Of course youll need toiletries and under clothing. I don't know if he dispatches the Virginia area or not but Jackie was my DM. Hes a good man, never had a problem with him. I ran out of the Kingsport, TN terminal and he used to send me over your way so hed be a good one if you can get him.

    Thanks for the info.

I kinda of figured that I wouldn't need much more. It's only 4 days long, so the basics are all I'll need. As for training, and eventually my own truck, I'm already working on that list of things. Already got the basics of things that were suggested/recommended by other drivers. But I'm going to wait to see what kind of truck I'm getting and how much room I have before I get some of the bigger items.

They have some roomy trucks. Most that I drove were Automatic. They still had a few of the older trucks with straights in them but I didn't see many. I believe youll like it once you get settled in with them. They had a lot of 20 year drivers when I was with them. That tells you a lot about a company. Like one poster stated they have their own way of doing things but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Good Luck to you.

Anything they give you or email you, read it and bring everything they ask for, I was in orientation with a guy that didn't bring certain documentation and acted like he didn't know about it, documentation is a big thing at averitt

Agreed. I have all the forms so far, and I can also access them online if need be. I'm also bringing a few extra in case something is needed. DD-214 and other military docs... I wonder if they care that I held a clearance and still hold one, as per DOD regs.

    Update:

Talked with Averitt yesterday, and confirmed my date, uniform size, etc... Come to find out they MAIL the package to you, instead of sending via email. It makes sense if they are sending a plane ticket, but even then; work hard not smart. Send the package via email, along with an e-ticket that the person can print out and take to the airport. But... Whatever.

I'm driving, so I'm waiting on the package to arrive and finish up anything I may have missed.

The policy from what I gather is they will fly, but if they can get away with it, bus a person to TN; Cheaper that way. But either way, if needed they will get you to orientation and back. After that it's up to you to get to the SC and your trainer.

I wouldn't mind a bus really after 2 16 hour rides out to little rock. But what I don't like is how Greyhound has incredibly long layovers in Nashville. The 'express' bus has a 4 hour layover there the regular bus has an hour and a half. Cookeville is only an hour or so drive away from Nashville :\ It's hilarious though, the 'express' bus takes longer to get there than the regular bus.
