Shopping around trying to find a company to call home for the next few years. I live in Blue Ridge, GA (middle of the state on the TN line). I already filled out an application but we all know how recruiters are and I want straight up no ######## answers. Ill be happy to send your name in as a referral bonus if I decide to go this route. Thanks in advance!
1. Can this company get me home most weekends? I know #### comes up sometimes but home time is priority in my book due to having a family.
2. What do solo drivers bring home per week on average? Not worried about CPM because it takes CPM + Miles to make a paycheck so I kinda want a ballpark figure of what you guys actually bring home.
3. What trucks and Transmissions do they use?
4. Do they let you idle, or do they have sleeper A/C and Heat? One thing I wont do is roast or freeze in a truck at night. I dont do the whole sweating while you sleep thing because I get little rest and its dangerous. Do the trucks have climate control systems in the sleeper or do they let you idle to be comfortable?
5. Prepass, Ezpass, and tolls such as Pikepass, Ipass, Txtag, and others. Are they covered automatically or how does all that work?
6. Delivery and Pickup times? Do you guys go on a lot of 2AM pickup or deliveries? I dont really mind, but I would imagine that throws a wrench into your sleeping and driving schedule at times.
7. Do they make you follow a specific route that you can not deviate from? What about fuel stops? Do you have to stop at assigned fuel stops or can you stop at any *insert whatever company US xpress uses here*
8. Inverters? I dont use a TV or anything in the truck but I do use my laptop during down time and I also have a very small 700w microwave.

I dont work for averrit anymore and it has been several years since I did. If your major priority is weekend hometime you would be better off going with an ltl company as no otr company will get you home every weekend and you be able to make any money.
I notice you have 1 year experience. I went through all of this when i started out, thinking i could be home on weekends and have a decent paycheck but it didnt happen that way.
I have settled with a routine of 4 weeks out and 1 week at home which does give me quality time while i am home plus the ability to earn a good income.
If you find this acceptable i may be able to help you...and i am a driver not a recruiter -

all trucks are equipped with apu's for ac/heat so there is no reason to idle unless the apu is broke
we have prepass for the scales and ipass, ezpass for tolls
all trucks are autos set a 65mph
I think all trucks have a 1500 watt inverters in them
most of the time you get fuel a an Averitt service center

Looking where you live, I can assume you would run out of CHA.
1. You are in a MAIN traffic lane....5 to 5.5 day work week
2. You can expect 1800+ miles a week
3. Cha shop is excellent
4. Since you are a new driver, expect being assigned a BEATER Volvo, Prostar, Cascadia or Columbia....500-800k miles
5. All are Autoshifts
6. All have APU'S WITH 1500W INVERTERS, Some also have 110 volt generators besides(COMFORT PRO)
7. All are set for 65 mph
8. Some still have paperlogs
9. All have PrePasstow614 Thanks this. -
Jeepman is correct... 1800 miles a week was a big week for me..that's why I left them..

BTW I'm tired of this job......can't wait to RETIRE! -
To add the the thread...
I know us noobs won't get top of the line equipment, but will we get some kind of say in the truck we get? or will it be first come, first serve? -
I'm driving my LAST AVRT truck...13 Prostar...I started with a 02 Volvo with 199k, drove that until I got my Pete, drove than until I had over 500K, then hurt my foot, lost the Pete, off 2 months, ended up with a NASTY roach infested, Crap,Unrine stinkin 07 Columbia, drove that 8 months, then got a 11 Cascadia, in late 10, drove that little over 300k, and now have my last my last ride.13 Prostar 14286
Helped out a NEW driver from Jax who was issued a 08 Columbia with 770k on it...spoke with a New driver in CIN Thurs who was issued a 10 Volvo with a shade over 500k on it...expect a beater, don't get used to it, new ones are coming in all the time, more senior drivers will be offered them and their trucks handed down, eventually if you last long enough you will be offered a NEW one. Rumor has it NEW drivers are being given NEW rides.....so they will stay, Avrt tried that before...It didn't work out. You will be given what they have available.Nukem Thanks this.
