What you'd pay for would be the uniforms they give you at orientation and yes signing a 6 month contract is normal for these type of positions. Averitt is paying decent money to train people so they want to get the most out of them. Cheez is also correct on the LTL. I'm on the far end of that run. I usually bring the full trailers to another SC or the final stops, so I forgot about the beginning runs. Oops.

Like nukem said, the only thing they will charge you for if you quit before 6 months is the uniforms. I think its about 150. Cant say I blame them honestly.

I am home for my second week. As you know my training ended very early (I was only with my trainer 8 days instead of 2 full weeks). Picked up my truck in Jonesboro, AR since we were under a load heading in that direction. Clean truck but the APU didn't work and a tail light was out. Got them fixed in under an hour at the next service center I stopped at. They gave me a load eventhough I hadn't gone to backing school yet. It was a load of kitty litter going to Atlanta originilly but later found out Averitt goofed and it was really going to Charolotte, NC. No worries. Since it was 45,000 pounds, I weighed the load which Averitt reimburses you for, and I was heavy on my drives. All the litter was at the nose and I had about 10 ft of space at the back of the trailer. No suprise really but at least this let me know how far I had to slide. I slid the trailer tandems forward 5 notches and re-weighed. Did the trick! I was on my way.

Got to the charlotte service center and this place is tight. Almost like the Norcross terminal. Tons of empty trailers, not many places to park. But the yard guys happily opened a slot for me to park for the night. Made my delivery the next morning and then was told to go to Fulton, GA (my home service center). They empty moved me from Charlotte to Atlanta. I got home Friday evening. I have to leave out on Sunday this time around though. I have to empty move from Atlanta to Cookeville to attend backing school for 4 days, then I will be on my own!

Still loving the company, no complaints. My truck is a 2011, but that thing pulls like mad. I was passing trucks with that kitty litter going up hill rather easily. The only people who pass me are O/O and Empties for the most part. The trucks seem to have more power than normal "mega carriers". Everyone at the service centers I have been to have been amazingly nice and polite. Drivers, Office Staff, Dock Workers....they are all nice and willing to help in anyway needed. They seem like they enjoy their job and have a good attitude.

Backing school will be boring, but I could use the help. I can back and I proved that by picking up a load on my own already, but I come from the world of spread axle trailers. Different animal and I am finding it difficult to get that out of my head when it comes to setting up to back into a slot. I normally have to pull up a couple times to get in there just right because I am not used to having normal tandems.

I know this has nothing to do with this, but can someone please tell me what if I can park a semi on a normal 4" driveway? I know the answer is probably no. I just want to make sure. If not do I need a reinforced driveway with rebar?

I park in Cookeville on the weekends and I will be headed out on Monday afternoon.
Maybe we will have the chance to meet, I drive the Prostar with a DG trailer that's parked to the far right of the gate

I've had someone contact me wanting to thank me for my time in this thread via a referral. We do get a monetary bonus for bringing drivers to Averitt. I'd be willing to not only answer any additional questions, but also cut you in on the bonus if I am certain it came from you. Send me a private messageif you want to go that route. Not begging for referrals but it works out for both of us if you are choosing averitt.

Cool thanks. Name is Chris Yohn. Driver number 57037. Didn't want to give my name to begin with in case Averitt was a bad company because I was going to tell my honest opinion. So far, I have very few if any complaints. I would have to think for a few mins and grasp at straws to find something negative to say so far.

Backing school is kind of boring so far. Went over a pretrip on an actual truck. Showed how to slide tandems and fifth wheel. Went over the top mistakes drivers make on their logs. They provide lunch this week too. I didn't know that so I have a week of food in my fridge that isn't needed. No worries, the APU will keep it good till next week. Pizza today, the rest of the week we go over and eat at the training center lime we did for orientation.

Chopper I saw your truck out here this morning but I didn't see anyone in it. You were gone by the time we went outside. You left way before 1. Lol! Be safe!

Don't have a number in front of me but my recruiter was emilee Anderson and her email was eanderson@averittexpress.com. she replies pretty quick. Just let her know I sent you and ask her to give you a call. Never waited more than an hour on her reply. I'll get to the truck soon and I'll get you her number if you haven't heard from here by then. Sitting in a class room at the moment
