I worked for Averitt for about 5 months. I live close to the Cookeville so I've seen them "evolve" over the years. From what I gather, it used to be a real good company years ago but now it's crap. I couldn't get over 1800 miles per week and the fleet managers are all JERKS. I quit when I told them my father was dying on Tuesday and they done everything they could to keep me away from home until midnight Saturday night. I had been telling them for weeks that he was dying and at some point I might have to be routed home early. Stay away from them guys!! They are self insured on the medical insured, it is just underwritten by BCBS, but Averitt pays the bill and they will do everything they can do to deny your benefits. I wear glasses when I drive and could not get a new pair because Averitt said it was a pre-existing condition! NO ####! What good is it to have cheap insurance if you can't use it?

Wow, I have a wife with more meds on the shelf than most pharmacys have, Many of them were preexisting Issues and have yet to be turned down. What I was sayin' is to do well at any company you need to have a servants heart. If you are curseing your Fm or getting upset over every little issue you should buy your own truck and see how good of a boss you can be to yourself. I have owned a company prior to truck driving and found that I was the worst boss I ever had, no vacations, no health care, and no time off. I treat everybody I work for and with respect, and I am treated with the same. The last two weeks had been slow about 1800 miles, I usually get between 2500-2800 miles. I know how to trip plan for miles as well as sleep, I contact the customer to confirm delivery times as well as estimated unloading time. Yep it takes a little work, But well worth the effort.:biggrin_255:

My pop didn't plan on leaving them, he had a heart acack and made it to the terminal and had them call 911. he was planning on going back as soon as the DR released him. while he was in the hospital they told him his insurrance would start on the 28th. before he got out of the hospital they fired him on the 27th of the month. well he got home and had insurance card that started on the 26th. they are trying to get out of it, not to mention that his cooler, microwave, etc... is still in their possesion somewhere.

It never seems to amaze me how these people treat their drivers. I'm thankful that i've been fortunate to make money and get home to my family without the hassle.

I heard that Averitt has a hiring freeze right now. I also heard thqt they were laying off drivers in some areas, but that doesn't sound true. I guess you would have to call them to find out. But remember, I tried to warn you!!!:biggrin_25517:

Also, If you do have a driving job now...better thank the good Lord and stay clean. When this economy thing is over it's going to be the clean driving records that survive regardless of who you work for. :biggrin_25525:
