No they are not. I quit old JB back in 1999, when they had the flat floor cabovers, and old JB was alive. It was the finest, hands down finest company I ever worked for. They had towel people at the showers, for example. Company cars. It was HANDS DOWN BETTER.. I mean a MILE better than Averitt. JB treated you with the greatest respect, at least back then. Averitt DOES NOT. I just got home..had to shut down in some fog down in LA on U.S. 165 headed for St. Louis. WHOA.. WHOA.. did I get chewed for that one.

Now I get a "reprisal" load. They'll give a little 37 mile load then you gotta unload it. What do they pay? The miles. I also had another issue of detention on one load.. a auto load that the doofus shippers couldn't find the bills for... so I hadda stay all night.

Watch these posts.. these drivers are telling you EXACTLY the way it is at Averitt. Averitt is not the worst, but they are far away from being the "best" at least for the employee. You will feed yourself.

The worst thing that galls me is thier, silly little uniform B.S. They take it seriously boy. Averitt= SILLY. STUPID.

My pay has been low the last three checks. Ain't clearing over $500. Stylicho, and others, are telling it the way it is.

:biggrin_25510: used to wrk for averitt, i lasted about a year otr, I also wrked city p & d. Now to the good stuff, It's true if you run out of Tn, Al, Miss, lower KY and Tx, you'll do pretty good but you'll won't get many miles from Ga, Nc, Va, Fl, Oh. It seems that the Fm and Ld planners don't know the layout of the country. It's true that you'll SIT ALOT plus you will run a lot of Hot Short no pay runs. Some terminals have clean restroom/ w showers. Averitt focus more on Image then efficiency. As for working P & D they try to work you like a Dog, and forget about a lunch break. Benefits has a lifetime max of a mil (thats low). I don't think averitt is a bad co just could be Much Better manageable. Happy to say i found another job (local) and very happy not to work there anymore (I'm making money now)

A friend was a contract driver for Aldworth trucking in '90 for Averitt. They told him to tuck in his shirt, wanted him to shave his beard, and cut his hair. He had a pony tail at the time. When Aldworth's contract was up they wanted him to apply to Averitt. He told them NFW!

can anyone tell me about the dollar genral acct they have? I checked with them, and its a dedicated run to dollar genral stores, they said should be home every week, but at the most two weeks out? Are the miles there? I don't mind unloading, I work for a grocery company right now, and trust me, unloading a couple dollar generals sounds WAY better then 30 stops doing gas stations!!!

To "old goat",you cant get miles if you arent getting the dispatches.I didnt restrict myself by the HOS rules like many drivers,I ran as hard as I could, which I had to most of the time due to the ridiculous dispatches and scheduling. It's either sit and wait for a load then get one for low miles,or GO! GO! GO! nonstop all day and night.I didnt drive for Averitt, but I too was told I would easily avg 2500mi.a week and did not.It all depends on your company, dispatch and their available loads.

I've got an interview at Averitt coming up. After reading all this, I'm nervous about it! Thinking I should stay put :(

Depends on what you got now and what you're expectations are.
After three years with Averitt, I'm happy enough.
They have kept their promise on the weekends. Never missed one yet.
Always get detention pay and breakdown pay when it's due.
A bad week is 1800 miles and I see 3000 occasionally. Most weeks 2200-2400.
My flleet manager is cool and I rarely hear from him. I just run what he gives me and go with the flow.
The medical insurance is top notch and inexpensive.
Short term disabilty is provided free and I drew a check when I missed a month on medical leave last year.
Not crazy about the dress code at first, but doesn't seem like a big deal anymore.
Kinda nice not to be embarrassed by a sloppy looking fellow driver at a customer.
Not trying to talk you into anything, just trying to balance some of what I've been reading here.
Be happy to answer any questions.

I know they had openings recently in OK, AR and TX for DG account. Not sure where the DC is out there. I know they have one in Indianola MS.
Usually 2-4 stops. Freight is in buggies and have lift gate trailer, no docks.
Not sure about the mileage except that is lower than ours, but they make it up with unloading/stop pay.
How often you got home would depend on your route and where you lived.
I run southeast regional, truckload freight, and have never missed a weekend.

I would like to get at least 3000 miles. I know I won't get that with Averitt.
In your opinion what are the best and worst qualities of Averitt?
I've drove dedicated freight for so long, I don't really like anything else.
I took on a co-driver and switched companies early last year during the slow-down. He recently quit, and the company I work for is really disorganized. That's my #1 complaint with them.

No you won't, not consistently anyway. An honest average for me this year is more like 2300.
That's fine with me considering I only spend 4-5 nights per week in the truck and at this point in my life, that's plenty of income.
There are some good dedicated runs, but it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time.
I filled in last week for a guy out sick. Columbia SC to Lexington KY and back. Mon -fri and he spends mon and wed night in the truck. But he is close enough to the shipper to do that.
There are guys doing Mercedes that have similar deals.

I would have to say the best quality is they have done everthing they have promised me. If the truck goes in the shop or breaks down on the road, I have never failed to recieve $14 PH after two hours.
I have always recieved promised detention pay after two hours. Rate varies with customer. Have gotten $70. PH Not often but it does happen.
The short term disability pay (no charge to driver) pays. I drew a months pay for a months medical leave.
I have never missed a weekend.

For the worst qualities, I would say inflexibilty in matters of dispatch. What the load planner says is pretty much set in stone. Their way or the highway. I don't like having to go to Cookeville TN for DOT physical and not local doctor. They are big on the sleep apnea deal and the company doctor has a sleep clinic up there. Little conflict of interest.
Not crazy about the uniform, dress code deal but I can live with it.
Not crazy about the no pet policy but I understand. Besides, my old dog died last year anyway.
They pay some short miles on most runs UNLESS it's terminal to terminal LTL run, then it pays dead on the money, gate to gate.
The catch on those runs are that they are generally overnighters.Pick up at say 2100-2200 and deliver at say 0600-0900. Usually 400-500 mile trips with just enough time to get there.
Usually assigned these loads early in the morning, giving you all day to prepare. But if I've slept the night before, it's nearly impossible to make myself sleep that day. Usually end up just toughing it out and crash hard the next day. We always get our break afterward. Not to bad if you can get in a pattern, but sometimes they just hit you with one in the middle of the week.
