    Hello...
in the process of getting myself a job with Averitt. I was an OTR driver for 2 years with Schneider National Bulk Carriers hauling tanks and currently a city driver delivering beer in Jersey. I dont usually pay attention to the negativity on these forums due to the fact that the world wide web has become an outlet for people to piss and moan about just about everything. As far as trucking. Its not for everyone. If you hustle, you will be okay. You must be flexible as far as when you can run freight. If you have no work ethic. whether your trucking or flipping burgers at Carls JR. you arent going to get anywhere. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU SIGNED UP FOR. So now that we got that out of the way. Black and white i would like some information. Dress code/personal appearence. I do have facial hair, working w/ schneider, I had to be "clean shaven" so thats nothing new, nor is it a problem. man makes the appearance, not vice versa. How long is the training for a driver with experience? they have the dollar general account. I have heard horror stories about dollar general accounts. as far as backing in tight spaces. Being a city driver in New Jersey. Im used to blocking traffic in small shore towns to back 60 foot trucks into tiny little liquor store parking lots. how does the pay work for the dedicated accounts? As far as truckload. Are they quick to dispatch as long as you keep them updated quickly via qualcom. Are the miles decent as far as a "regional" standpoint. I know from doing regional in the east coast. its alot of short hauls. alot of running. but it added up rather quickly.

I am on the DG account and I can tell you that the biggest problem we have is that people don't want to work, and if your going to be on this account you will have to work.
we are paid by the mile/stop and trailer
there are some tight stores but they aren't to bad if you just take your time

i can't help you out with info on the DG account, i ran truckload with them. you do have to wear a uniform with averitt. Training for experienced drivers is just the orientation in cookeville,tn then you will be in your own truck(at least that's how it worked for me). I almost always had another load assigned before i delivered my current one, and ran about 2100 miles a week, but was home every weekend unless i chose to stay out. I only left averitt for a local job where a friend of mine works, that is turning out to be not so great. I am planning on going back to averitt sometime around April (hopefully).
