Tank Truck Averitt Questions

I have been trucking for 34 years, the last 11 with Averitt,in my opinion any job is what you make of it! To tell you the truth it takes time to learn the system of any company and what works for you.Averitt is a sound company with there own policies that take some getting use to but in all I think they are a great co.to work for.Uniforms are a plus(co.paid) professional look (no sweat pants hogs allowed) the management are good folks to work with and with any company communication is the key to the success of the co.& your paycheck!! I'm home every weekend(tell me of another co.that pays your miles to go home?)I average between $ 55/$60 k yr. drive nice well maintained equipment, good benefits, paid holiday & vacation pay, truckload trucks have APU'S & never had a problem being paid for what I've done. And yes times are very hard now & miles are down(for all trucking) but a man/woman should consider themselves lucky to have a job in today's economy. I have 1,865,341 accident free miles since getting on board with Averitt(1.9 million before sign-on) and always give 110% effort with any employer.( I hope this answers some of you questions about my company)Good Luck & do your homework before signing on with any company!

It's always good to hear about the good experiences with companies. Thanks for sharing, and congrats on those accident free miles!

I drove for Averitt last year, from July to November. I drove a tractor trailer for 12 years accident free. And have worked for many other companys pulling most any kind of trailer. Here's my 2 cents on Averitt. I agree that you have to put your time in to get used to the company and DM. I have also been a dispatcher and an account manager for other trucking companies. Your first set of unifoms are bought by the driver. They take it out of your check, over a few weeks. They are not cheap. Averitt will provide your uniforms every year, but the first. Solo, new drivers with Averitt do not get the better equipment. Although, my truck was decent. they do take good care of the equipment. Depending on which terminal your at. I went through two trucks durning my time with Averitt. The turbo went out in my first truck. So I asked to be put in another one rather than wait for the repairs. I was told this other truck was road ready and all cheked out. It was the same year and model of the first truck. I got about 100 miles down the road when the EGR went out. I sat all day to have it repaired. They did pay me some wait time. My checks were always correct. The miles weren't there like I thought they would be. I would try and stay out all weekend, and was told there was nothing to do. So at least I went home and waited. But then again, th economy wasn't booming last year either. I would reccomind Averitt to anyone. I don't consider myself an "outlaw" trucker, but there were too many rules for me.

I am in my first year with "Big Red" and I feel that I have been well cared for in most cases. Like every other company freight is scarace and miles are few, I have a great flt mgr, he always is considerate and helpfull. The collage kids that do the sales could use alittle work, But that seems to be the case at most companies. My truck is one year old and is home. I visit my wifes house on weekends. Overall on a scale of 1-10 I give averitt 7.5 .

I was just hired by Averitt out of Atlanta and will start with them in about two weeks. I have to finish out with my current company. My question is, the terminal that I'll be working out of is 50 miles from my house but I want to transfer to one 5 miles form home. Is this going to be a problem if I'm a regional driver?

Does Averitt still have a no facial hair rule?

I don't mind the uniforms and dress code. Been in the military almost 20 years. I want to be able to grow my goatee once I retire from the Army, and the no facial thing put me off from Averitt.
