This thread will be updated at least once a week. I will post my experience with Barr-Nunn. Please refrain from posting your experiences or opinions of Barr-Nunn in this thread, so it can be informative to prospective employees. I want this to be as concise as possible.
I will be starting orientation with Barr-Nunn Monday 06/21/2010, in Granger, IA. They say it will be a two day orientation. They say I will be taking an extended driving test, since I have been off the road for several months.
I will post again Sunday night from the Hotel.

I am also looking to purchase a Marine Battery once I get my truck. I plan to trickle charge it while I am going down the road. I plan to run my fan from it when sleeping, as well as other accessories. If anyone else here does this, and has some advice, I'm listening.

Nope, not going to happen. I will be completely honest in my post. I know doing so will get me a lot of hate and bashing, but here goes.

The hotel in Urbandale is nice. I was able to get a smoking room. Not much in the immediate area. There is a "homestyle cooking restuarant" called the "Machine Shed" next to a historical farm thing. The internet in the room was pathetic, but the shower was great. The breakfast was Maxwell House coffee, toast, bagels, waffles, cereal and cold boiled eggs.

Day one, we were picked up 8am, and taken to get our physicals. No problems here, staff were friendly and everything went fine.
We then were taken to the driver facilities for orientation. Classes were relatively quick and summaries. A couple videos, ect. Lunch was your choice of a sandwich from "Casey's General store", a bag of chips and a can of off-brand soda of your choice. They have free washer and dryers there for the drivers. About 4:30, we were picked up by the hotel shuttle. Supper is whatever you want, cause its up to you to get it.

Day two started at 7:30am, be checked out and ready to go. Hotel Shuttle takes you to the facilities. More classroom time and videos. Driving tests take place sometime in the morning. Lunch was a Casey's Pizza and a can of soda.

After lunch its just waiting for drug tests to come back, tractor assignments, ect.

The tractor I was assigned was a 2006 model with 454,xxx miles. No Apu's, no inverters, and alot of older equipment. They have alot of new Prostars on the lot though. They are getting the older equipment cycled out. They mostly use the newer Qualcomms with the touch screen.

    ----

Now, I was doing good until my driver test. And was optimistic. But during the driver test I had a terrible time with shifting. I've been driving a manual transmission truck for 5 years, with no problems. I float gears even though, some say you shouldn't. But in this truck, I couldn't hit them. It was like some sort of nightmare, I couldn't wake up from. The Instructor a.k.a. Equipment Manager, did not like this. So, I was told that afternoon, I would not be hired.

I drove myself home, and am now searching for another company, with more bill collectors at my door then before. I wonder, do I have to report my time with Barr-Nunn on my application with other companies? Seems pointless. Since I was never hired. Oh well.

    Baack Thanks this.

I am driving down to Kansas City for a return to Knight. I will drive down there tonight and be in a truck Friday. Maybe I will post my experience with them in another thread. And thanks, Whydontchahey.

This is my last post to this thread, I will be starting a Knight thread asap. I just want to say, I feel better now. I took a road test today in a Knight Volvo, and had no trouble shifting. Had no trouble with the test, and it felt good to be back in a truck that worked well.

hey, as for your question...i had a similar experience at JB Hunt (im elgible for rehire now though). They reported it on my dac as came to orientation and was not hired or left, with no explanation, and when asked, they only say that it happened and are VERY slow to respond to the employment verification fax. It's the ONLY thing on my dac..lol. Recently i applied at a steering wheel holder outfit, they were like..."your dac only says you worked for jb hunt...you HAVE driven a truck before, right?!?!?!" lollllll....

Most companies dont do this though. Just apply for other jobs without mentioning it, see what happens. Werner and covenant both said i didnt have to put it on my application, but they did find it on my dac and ask for an explanation. I just said, they lied to me about hometime and they were full of #### and i went home...

No hate.... Just a big grin:biggrin_25523:

What kind of tranny/motor were you using that you couldn't shift a basic 10 speed/Detroit?

I had a similar issue at Heartland. They cut the range of the RPM's so you couldn't run it past 1600 when you bumped the fuel for a down shift. It took a few seconds to realize and had to adjust my speed and RPM to keep the shifts in the smaller RPM window.
