I'm Still here. I've been a driver for Barr Nunn in the North East for 4.5 years now. I'm on a dedicated run and I'm treated well. It took me a while to get what I needed to be happy but I'm there now!

The freight lanes and average length of haul for the national drivers is changing to a little longer and less dock time. It appears to me we are pulling slightly heavier and slightly longer trips then before. The impression I had was we were after the higher paying, light and short hauls previously. The North East runs are between 130-300 miles loaded and almost all drop and hook. The North East guys have to hustle in order to squeeze in multiple loads. By knowing each customer and what you can expect at their facilty, you eventually save time trip planning and dealing with customers because they become familiar with you. You have to be a people person to be successful at Barr Nunn. Hot Tempers don't get anything acomplished here. The North East drivers can expect to average $880-920 for working Monday morning to Friday afternoon. Alot of us choose to work Monday-Saturday for an average of $1050 a week. This is before you factor in bonus money and different extras they throw at us. the average guy should be able to earn at least 52k but more like 54k a year, be home every weekend in the North East and do it in great equipment. Most guys 3 years plus here are earning closer to $60k and up.

The only major things wrong I see is the vacation is based on miles not years of service. The average North East guy is going to run about 93k-97k miles in a year. You earn a years service every 120k miles. It should take 7 years to earn 3 weeks vacation but it takes more like 10years. Also workman's comp issues become dicey. We also have no short term disabilty available as far as I know.

    1catfish Thanks this.
