Do not believe any of the things you have read or been told concerning this company, all of it is nothing but a bunch of lies. If you like being able to make a living for your family and pay your debts. Then please for your own sake and the sake's of your loved one's, stay clear of this company. They are nothing more than a human meat grinder that doesn't care about you or your family, not to mention they have an 85% turn over rate.

85% turn over is low compared to many/most of the large companies.

I thought that too. With turnover averaging about 130% at many big companies, 85% means that you are only losing about 2/3 the drivers of the average. that would tend to imply happy drivers.

Only happy drivers if you are a long-time driver with the company. During my horrible three-week disaster of working for these people, I talked to many of the older drivers with the company about problems I was having. One in particular, shed some light on them.

He said when you are a new driver with the company, they play a game with you pushing to see how far you'll go before you snap. If you don't stand up for yourself and push back, they keep at it till they run you in the ground. I then asked him how you were expected to stand up for yourself, when you are made to sign a statement in orientation that Barr Nunn is a "forced dispatch" company, and that if you refuse a dispatch, you will be terminated. He looked stunned and then said "We are not forced dispatch, I've been working for them for 10 years and that's the first I'm hearing of it being forced dispatch. I refuse any load I don't want to take." He was not the only long-time driver who stated this.

Now because I had it drilled into my head in orientation that it was a "forced dispatch" company, I was afraid to push back, and they did everything they could to run me ragged. I was forced to take loads when I shouldn't have even considered moving the truck, because "you're the only driver available in the area." I was hounded on the phone by dispatch to take these loads. If it's true, that all newbies are subjected to this game, then it backfired, because this "newbie" jumped ship and went back to a company where "safe and legal" are more than just words, and where the only time dispatch calls me on the phone is if they need the load I am assigned to for another driver.

Barr Nunn has a lot of good going for it, if they'd utilize a driver's time better, and quit playing games. You get the OH/IN toll cards, you never have to pay cash to scale a load, they use Transflo, Newer trucks (mine was an 06 with less than 200,000 on it), they have a mileage band system where drivers get paid variable cpm based on length of trip, etc. Oh and you get a TCH fuel card as well as a commdata card, so you can pretty much fuel at any truckstop, including Flying J's. I also liked the way you were given a listing of fuel stops within a state, and YOU could choose where to fuel your truck, when YOU felt it needed fuel. Of course, my truck had 120 gal tanks, so it wasn't as much an issue there. Also, you start contributing to your 401K with them from day one, and I believe your health insurance (blue cross blue shield) starts after your first 30 days. There is good there. I just didn't have the patience to stick it out and fight for better miles, better treatment. I knew my previous company would have a truck waiting for me if I came back, so rather than try to break in a new company, I went back where I felt I was home.

Oh also, if you have your hazmat endorsement, you start out making more cpm than those that don't have hazmat. Not trying to recuit for them here, but I want it clear that while I couldn't work for them because of my own reasons, they still do have good things to offer, if you can figure out how to work their system. Most of the things with the company I did enjoy. The dispatching was what I had a problem with. For me that was serious enough to leave. I will also point out that many of the drivers have been there long term. I think the shortest amount of time of any of them I spoke with was 7 years. When you have so many long time drivers there, there has to be something keeping them there. It just wasn't a good fit for me personally.

The long term drivers with BARR-NUNN that you were speaking with was full of it. I worked with the company for two years and I was promised a lot from these clowns but all the promises were empty and hollow.

The fuel cards you spoke of, you could only fuel at BARR-NUNN designated fuel stops. If you attempted to fuel elsewhere, the card was rejected. The health care plan they have, during my two years with them, my wife used the once and it took me almost 3 months to get the plan to pay up.

I had to fight for any and all miles I got with the clowns, when I called the so called people in charge, their only statement was, "WELL, MAYBE YOU CAME TO WORK FOR THE WRONG COMPANY." I even called the owner of the company and he could have cared less about my concerns.

About the so called good or great equipment, yes they are new or almost new Freightliners and they have the bare bones essentials in them. As for a good smooth ride, "NO WAY". You drive 100 miles in one of those bone crackers and your hurting all over. Get one the trucks in VA, WV or the Carolina's and you can run faster up hill than that truck will pull.

As I stated in my earlier post concerning this sorry, good for nothing company. If you like making the money you need to pay debts and support your family then steer clear of this company, they could care less about you or your family, they only care about their bottom line "THEM" and that's it. I would not recommend this company to my most hated enemy.

Yeah, even my worst enemy wouldn't deserve that kind of retribution. I'm back at the company I am happy with, and wish I'd never left to go to BN in the first place. They can keep their new columbia, I'll keep my old Century till it croaks, and be happy, cuz I get plenty of miles here.

I met a driver that was with barr nunn the other day,he is from ohio,I know his handle but won't disclose it. He was with us express and some others, been driving 12 yrs,he told me hes a company driver, not lease purchase which is a whole story in itself, but he said dispatch treated him great and he ran like he wanted to. I myself haven't heard alot of drivers bad mouth barr nunn, especially in ohio and pa area, they say they get all the miles they want. I know they aren't one of the real bad companies out there.

6 months ago I was one of those Drivers that would probabally encourged you to go to Barr Nunn. Today I left the Company, and trust me I ran, I did not walk. The only thing that you are to them is a steer wheel holder, you do not have any brains, and they do not want you to think. My last day with them I talked to some one that had been with them for 13 years. He agrees that something has changed within the last 6 months, and he is also thinking real hard about switching companys. I was there for 16 months, in that time I got only 105,416 miles. I always heard "Things are about to get Better". I stuck with them that long because I lived close to the terminal. But finally decided that feeding my family and paying the bills was more important.
Like I said Run do not walk from Barr Nunn

I saw an ad for them today, and almost encouraged my dad (been driving longer then I've been alive) to go over to them... Stated starting pay was 41cpm for no HME and 45cpm with HME. After hearing all this bad chatter, I don't think I could live with myself if I told him to check it out....:biggrin_2557:

    Thanks for the updates
