They are advertising right now for drivers from scranton pa to syracuse ny. in the last few weeks i have seen ton of trucks going up and down I81 in NY. I guess ill have to get on the raido and ask them.

As long as you are aware of the mass layoff we had in this area a while back. Then again not too many companies are hiring in that region anymore. With Kodak and all these other major shippers scaling back or closing, upstate NY is like a freight desert. -
we didnt have a massive layoff...many of the northeast drivers either quit or were fired many quit because they were moved from salary to milage

Good luck with Heartland. They treat their Columbus drivers way better than the Carlisle drivers. I couldn't make it work there for me, out of Carlisle, especially with all the lost time with inspections every other minute.

I am going to orientation next week, after reading all these last post, hope I made the right choice. I am leaving the company I am at because the pay is much lower, truck is a 03 constantly down for repairs and the insurance for my wife and I is about 150. a week. This company seems to have the benefits I am looking for. Anyone answer me how the company is on idling, my last company wanted us to start truck to warm it up and then shut off, now if you do that all night how can you drive, you'd be so fatigued. I know every company has it's faults, no one will ever find a perfect company. I will be doing National OTR, I have been looking for trucks and driver to talk to while I am out and have not found any, where do they run? Any info would be appreciated, Thanks.

My last 6 months there was alot of Jersey and pennslyvania. Runs down to the atlanta area. Kelloggs runs out of penn to ohio. Kelloggs runs into illinois. Lots of fed ex runs. 3m runs out to Iowa. You wont get past nebraska,hardly ever get up into minn. Nothing past kansas. Maybe just into the edge of ark next to tenn. They don't run any farther west. And everything east. Hope this helps some. Idling is 30 percent for the year. Right now all the companys are on a push for less than 10 percent while the weather is mild. The fleet has been turned down to 63mph. The cost of fuel is rising again as the economy is rebounding.
Family insurance is not cheaper here. Blue cross Blue shield with a $750 deductible then 80-20 with $30 copay for office visits.
Can't speak for the OTR guys, but as a Northeast regional driver I drove 91,000 miles last year and earned 55k. The road guys should be doing 100,000 miles per year with 3-10 percent of the pay being stops/driver assists/ detention. With the band pay a road guy should be averaging about 4 cents per mile above the base pay rate you get hired at. As long as you keep the idle in the top half of the fleet with mpg's as well, and avoid the tolls were asked to by following the routes provided, you can do well here.
They reduced their fleet to 450 or so trucks from almost 700 by keeping the most aware drivers running. Now they have a steady delivery of new trucks coming in as freight is growing, looking to grow in the Northeast. The miles are short. I prefer working less for more money.
To me driving 600 miles a day at 35 cents a mile is boring, hurts my back, and bad for my health. I log about 48-52 hours in 5 days or 52-60 in 6.
