Important Truckers Forum Notice!

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Arkansas/alternative fuels

Arkansas still in pursuit of niche in alternative fuels market
5/8/08

Quote:

LITTLE ROCK — Arkansas is still working to develop its place in the alternative fuels market, but Agriculture Secretary Richard Bell said Wednesday the state is well-positioned to use rice husks to generate ethanol.

One hitch is the $60 million to $70 million cost of building a facility to convert the rice waste to energy, though the nation's leading rice producer does have plenty of husks.

A number of biodiesel companies are operating in Arkansas, and Bell said the state has distributed between $6 million and $7 million in grants under the Arkansas Alternative Fuels Development Program. Sixty-one entities have applied to the program, with seven being approved and "three or four" more expected to meet requirements, Bell said at a meeting of the Arkansas Agriculture Board.

Ethanol from rice husks would be considered ethanol from biomass, since the hulls are largely fiber. The cost of 43 cents per gallon is the raw material cost for the rice hulls at 40 dollars per ton, but there are other costs in the production of ethanol, or any alcohol from any source

You still have lots of feed grade byproducts left after converting most of the starch in corn into ethanol, and food grade corn is not generally used for either feed or fuel production. The byproducts are high in protein and oil and very low in sugar and starch. The byproducts, if they are dried, are as exportable as is the grain itself, driving up prices for those as well. I have not seen a simple formula in how much fuel production drives up costs for other users, including food.

This is getting interesting but I sure hope the don't add Lard to the mix.....that's a no-no, it will gel.

With any luck I plan to refine my own oil and make my own blend. I don't know all the details but my brother just bought a contraption for us to use so if we have luck I'll post the results. Now mind you this is just goin in the pick-ups not big trucks.

From what a local biofuel place told me I can literally go to a Costco type place and buy Wesson Oil and stick it in my reserve tank and drive till the cows come home.......has anybody tired this yet ? ? ?
