Important Truckers Forum Notice!

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

America's Truckers Roll Out A Convoy Of Green

America's Truckers Roll Out A Convoy Of Green
5/8/08
Quote:
Washington, D.C. -
With diesel prices hitting $4.15 per gallon, America's truckers are officially going green.

Thursday, the industry's trade organization, the American Trucking Associations (ATA), unveiled a program it says will cut fuel consumption by 86 billion gallons during the next 10 years. It would also reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 900 million tons during the same period.
"This program is about climate change, not about fuel prices," says Bill Graves, ATA president and former Kansas governor.

And regulation. One of the ATA's chief interests is a bill now moving through Congress that uses a market-based approach to curb climate change. The transportation sector would be regulated "upstream," at the fuel import point. The ATA is concerned about the bill's price tag--estimated by some to be more than $1 trillion--and that states could have pre-emptive power to go beyond federal rules.

The group is joined by like-minded worrywarts. Also in attendance at the press conference to announce the ATA's program: Red Cavaney, president of the American Petroleum Institute (API), the voice in Washington for oil and gas companies, and National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) President John Engler.

Earlier this week, API said that bill could shift much U.S. refining capacity overseas--as much as 3 million barrels per day by 2020. In March, an NAM-commissioned study concluded the bill would contribute to 1.8 million job cuts by the same year.

Now hurricanes won't affect the flow. But wars will.....

This just proves they do not care about the drivers.
Quote:
Trucking companies can limit speed limits by placing governors on their fleet vehicles. Indeed, Schneider National announced Thursday it is voluntarily slowing its fleet to 60 mph, though the company says it's not raising pay for its drivers, who are paid by the miles they run.

This is my favorite part and it answers the question.... "How can we get more CHEAP truck drivers?"

I love the part where they say it's for environmental reasons and not fuel prices. So you're going to do this to help the environment, saving money as a kicker and still screw the drivers by not taking that savings and putting it towards higher pay. Corporate sellout weasels!
