Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Red tape, costs entangle fans of 'green' fuel

Red tape, costs entangle fans of 'green' fuel

It's not uncommon on California roadways to spot diesel cars with bumper stickers that boast of biofuels in the engine, using slogans such as "Fuel for the revolution."

"This is the largest underground movement in the United States since the Civil War and the underground railroad," said Michael Wittman, an environmental activist and biodiesel user in Los Angeles.

But many drivers who began using biofuels to reduce their carbon emissions and save money fear that little-known government regulations are nipping the adoption of homegrown, "green" fuels in the bud.
In California, it's illegal to collect vegetable oil from a restaurant for fuel without paying a $300 license upfront as well as hefty road use taxes per gallon. And along with rising costs for commodities, rules regulating how to sell non-standard fuels are driving some biodiesel suppliers out of business.

but what they are not telling you is that all the restaurant are paying to have it collected.so you still make money for picking it up.not a bad deal geting payed to collect it then make money off selling it or puting it in your own tank

What I've found is that if you offer the restaurant owner say $25-50 for their grease, they will call you when it's full. Some will go so far as to limit the amount of water that gets mixed with it when they clean the fryers etc. Paying a little bit for a steady clean source of veggie oil is better than trying to be sneaky and possibly get fined.
