| Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear? |

| Well I have to jump in to this thread. I had a friend that was running OTR with a '06 Ram with the Cummins. He did pick up 2.5mpg. He had to constantly tweek it and had to refill it every 125 miles. He bought it from a company on the East /coast of Florida. $1200!! it had a rheostat that he played with and an amp meter. |

| Sub zero The answer is simple... but the design is not. Most electrolytes are metallic salts. As the concentration of these salts increases..... you lower your freeze point. Some of these salts, with molar concentrations approaching 40% can achieve a freeze point of -40F. They have to use such concentrations in batteries that power Satellites. (it's cold up there). Controlling such a strong electrolyte is NOT easy. Your problem then becomes one of power control to the electrodes. A current limiting PWM (pulse width modulator); a powerful one that can maintain a steady hydroxy output from the cell by restraining the amp draw, while preventing thermal runaway is your only choice. Most PWM's are DEFINATELY not capable of this and would need to be tested and proven to reliably handle such electrolyte concentrations. Stainless Steel contacts and connections RESIST the flow of electricity (unlike Copper for instance) and therefore heat up.... they are not a good choice within a cell design. Electrodes: metal composition, design, spacing and configuration including neutrals all play a part in stabilizing such a system. Varying and matching the hydroxy output to sync with the engine rpm in real time engine demand is not only possible, but makes a lot of sense in maintaining constant lean air/fuel ratios. Safety issues.... auto shut-off switching on engine stalls or low water or thermal runaway is critical to a good design. What I'm describing is a "smart" cell design... one that senses, controls and reacts.... but tough enough last for 100,000 miles. You're going to look long and hard before you find one with that kind of capability.... but that's what you're after. Hope that helps.

| I've seen the use of a circulatory pump that runs while the truck is plugged in at night. Keeping the water moving does help prevent freeze up. But to how low of temp I do not know... |
