Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

I'd be far more worried about the 4500psi compressed air tank that's probably under the floor of the car and made of some sort of composite material. i don't see how they could use something like a metal Scuba tank(which apparently has the destructive power of a hand grenade another website says a couple sticks of dynamite) when going for the car being as light as possible. fwiw.. some paintball players use composite compressed air tanks that are 4500psi and have a 96 cubic inch capacity... they have to be tested every so often in order to insure they are safe still. i'd post links but dont have the ability. just google search for Explosive power of a scuba tank.

yeah - but a scuba tank does not go off like a bomb when ruptured... it will release without shredding. a can of beer shaken up has the equq. energy of a 2 gallon gasoline bomb.. all in how you look at it - but your fears are unwarranted. (for reference keep in ming that I was a 2305 in the marine corp. ) "eod tech II - divisional bomb disposal" there are a lot of household items that have "exposive energy" that you do not even give a second glance.

New technology brings new fears.. your gasoline tank in your car would have less protection the compared to a cylinder of air.. You ride wit air tanks under you everyday as a trucker.. They have a blow of valve to let air out.. So will these and also have a few other safety measures.. AS the other poster said air tanks don't blow up they release.. They will simply lose the pressure out a crack, hole or whatever and now blow.. Curves on the car? yep its called aerodynamics and you can expect all car and trucks in the future to start radically changing shapes in order to save fuel... Its a good technology and has great potential.. the fear is natural but the only real danger as of yet is the size of the car itself.. And as we already said the technology will get better and then the cars will get bigger..

That might get 2000 miles across NE, KS and other non mountain states, but I'm betting rolling mountains like PA, eastern KY, MO and certainly all of the rocky mountain states are going to severely strain an air powered car to make it over I 70 west of Denver when you have miles of 6% + grades. These cars will be the stock of the rocky mountain states.

Here is why I don't ride in a Yaris. Trust me I have FAR WORSE pics of this wreck than what I've posted here. The driver did not survive. There were a couple large body pieces and numberous smaller ones that went in the body bag. ![]() This is where the driver used to be.

Yup I agree that small cars have their downfalls when it comes to wrecks.. But $8-10 dollar a gallon people will be looking at it in a different way...
