Important Truckers Forum Notice!

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Lots of things are theoretically possible at the quantum level (teleportation, for instance, has been done, but only with sub-atomic particles and it requires an enormous amount of energy) that are patently impossible (for now) at full scale.

The problem with quantum physics/mechanics is, there's only about 5 or 6 guys who really understand it. I do not pretend to be one of them. The one thing I know about particles is, it's possible to know one's state of charge or its location, but not both. The particles only "exist" inside a fuzzy field of probablity. Look up the Schroedinger's cat experiment for an illustration of how it works. Makes my head hurt. And it's mean to cats.

If I fixed a 5-cylinder Volkswagen, does that make me a Quantum mechanic?

Closer to on-topic, if the teleportation nut can ever be cracked, we wouldn't need cars. Or trucks for that matter.

If those 5 or 6 guys ever solve the mystery of QM and come up with a Unified Theory of Life, the Universe, and Everything, we'll have all the free energy we'll ever need. Or the universe will implode.

Great point... Its the things that may be discovered on the way to finding a working teleportatian device that will lead to other ideals as well..

Many great things were stumbled upon by accident...

Anyways, I think we know where people here stand in this post... Some believe it will never work and some believe there is possiblilites...... I myself happen to believe we have not even scratched the surface as of yet...

I have showed you several arguments to your claims and you have dodged them all, with fancy wording, and disqualifying them because they are not "well known scientist" hoping people will not be able to see threw it... The fact is Quantum Physics has loopholes that shows a perpetual motion machine may be possible... Sorry you are so closed minded... By the way newtons laws do not work down to molecular sizes, so your many decimals comment does not say otherwise.

Arguments?!? Moses and I both tried to explain the proven scientific concepts disputing your assertions; and your response was "I don't think so" !?! I'm not trying to be superior, I'm frustrated at trying to discuss scientific principles with someone who dismisses facts with 'I don't think so'. A rational discussion cannot take place if the concepts of precision (decimal places) and scale ( macro vs micro) are treated as equal. For those reading who wish a quick summary, I'll hit the high spots.

4500 PSI is going to do some work. A little at a time or all at once, you dump that kind of pressure and you'll get results. But it won't be a non-event!

Heat is the graveyard of all energy. You can start with light, sound, pressure, nuclear; in the end it all disipates as heat. You can recapture some to do work, but you'll never catch it all. So in the end, heat is the only issue.

Quantum mechanics differs from Classical mechanics in that a given set of initial conditions gives not one finite result but rather a group of statistical probabilities. So yes, one small piece might violate the Second Law, but the average of those results never does. I can explain better anyone wishes but have to quit for now!

? really all i have said is "I don't think so"... I have showed where there are possible and theory saying otherwise... I have showed that newton's law does not work down to molecular size.. I have shown where people are working on exactly what I am suggesting and believe in the theories as well.. Keep on arguing your point from here is pointless, as well me arguing my point.. You believe in what you believe and I will believe in what I do.. One thing is factual, if we did not have people dream and go against what people thought had been "proven", we would not have much of what we had today... Here is another example, the medical and scientific community thought man would never be able to survive in space, they would not be able to eat, swallow food nor drink, they would not be able to function and do work, majority of all medical/scientist community believed that.... Now look at we are doing today...

Now Newton law is pretty sound I will give you that... One also could word it as saying Newtons law can not be proven wrong but proven less accurate... (some would simply say that means Newton's Law being wrong)

You still miss the the point. This whole discussion began with your assertion that ' they'll be able to pump more air in the car uses'. Quantum theory will possibly give us incredibly powerful energy sources. Whoever finds the way to generate gravity (probably after unification) will unleash the human race on the stars. But the Second Law appears more and more certain to reign supreme. And nothing in quantum theory will magically allow more energy to come out of a system than it started with. Fusion (which is a quantum process ) uses up mass to make energy. It's why stars don't last forever. The fuel is eventually gone. And such is most likely to be the case with gravity, even though we don't know the why's of it's workings.

Go back and re-read Moses post on heat and efficiency. Nothing in quantum theory changes the heat (and thus energy loss) through friction.

Not being a scientist, I kinda figure that if you compress air, it heats up. And since there is already plenty of HOT AIR in Washington, you would need only to spread the politicians around evenly across the US and tap them for a never-ending supply of hot air. PLUS, they could actually EARN the money we pay them.
Problem (SEVERAL of them) solved.

Exactly my thought was tapped into earlier in this thread.

Sure, the Insight, Prius, Smart car, etc are fun and nice......but what about those of us who are bigger than average? I'm built like a defensive lineman, I'm 6'4", and i can't cram myself into a Prius. I always bump my head or my knees when I get in!

Now if you could take that battery/generator/hybrid drive and put it in, oh say, an F150? or a Silverado? then yea, I could go for it. Until then...well....Guess i'll have to suck it up and ride the motorcycle.

Keep in mind when you're dealing with Prius and other battery hybrid cars: Those batteries will probably last only 10 years....and when it comes time to replace them, there will be hell to pay.
