Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Plastic pallets could help trucking firms become greener

Plastic pallets could help trucking firms become greener

A Florida company said plastic shipping pallets could dramatically reduce the amount of money the trucking industry spends on gas. Wooden pallets are heavier and lower fuel economy, creating more emissions. Plastic pallets weigh less and last longer, experts say.

Don't let Al Bore hear this. You know it takes petroleum to make plastic.

How is that supposed to help? We'll still be hauling the same weight, it will only be more product, less "packaging".

exactly, 99% of the loads are based on the volume of the product that can be fit, while staying under 80,000.

This is, beyond a doubt, the dumbest thing I have heard of from the greenies today. I have 20+ years teaching forestry/natural resources at the college level...Why would you want to substitute a non-renewable resource (plastic) for a renewable resource (wood) that is 100% biodegradable and took no non-renewable resources to make? The weight difference is the hocus-pocus to keep the stupid and uneducated saying "thank God for the greenies, they will save the world!"

They seem to forget that trees are a crop, not humans.

Amen...80 less sawmills in California the last 10 years and 80 more sawmillls in Canada. The forests of California are literally packed with trees and the state grows more wood each year than the citizens need...but California is an importer of wood because the friggin' greenies run the state.

Plastic pallets aren't as strong when a moron lift truck operator pushes on the end or side of one to scoot it over either.
