Yes, they have been using animal fat to manufacture Bio-diesel, for the very reason you stated.

No, their not using it now. LOL...animal fat turns solid during the winter month. If you use it beware.

Cargill has a 37million gallon a year biodiesel plant in Iowa Falls that is in full swing. It uses Soybean as a feedstock. I believe ADM has a plant in Iowa as well that uses soybean.
