Truckers' Trucking Forum/Message Board - The Premiere Truck Driver Forum

Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Hamsters in jackets harnessed for energy

I am sorry guys but I already thought of this when I was like 7

Quote:
The devices are strapped to the animals as they run on their cage wheels, capturing the biomechanical energy they release as they exercise.
Experts believe the technique could one day be used to capture power produced by humans.
Dr Zhong Lin Wang of Georgia University's Nano Research Group developed the flexible jackets, which are fitted with wires plugged into a nanogenerator that produces energy when they are bent and stretched.
In tests one hamster named Campbell's Dwarf produced small amounts of AC power – around one twentieth of the output of an AA battery.
Although it would take 1,000 hamsters to generate enough energy to power a mobile phone, Dr Wang said the technology could have practical applications when applied to larger animals and humans.

1000/20 = 50 AA batteries... maybe one of those old mobiles from the 80's that was big enough to house 1000 hamsters?

I think after feeding one thousand hamsters it would be cheaper to just buy the damn batteries. They need to go back to researching useful things like mating habits of ticks in zero gravity.

But I think the underlying story is that this guy thinks that they could hook humans up to it. Just think of all the energy that couldbe gotten from gyms where people are on those bikes and treadmills.
