Biodiesel & Alternative Fuels Forum This is a forum to discuss bio-diesel and other kinds of alternative fuels. We think bio-diesel is the next revolution as Hydrogen costs too much to make and putting food (Ethanol) in your tank is not feasible and will cause food prices to skyrocket. What say you on bio-diesel? Should we start this bio-diesel revolution and kick it into high gear?

Anyone use deep cycle batteries to run HVAC system? There are a couple of companies out there that sells emission free APU systems that use the truck alternator to charge an array of deep cycle 12v batteries, and then power cab electric and HVAC during downtime for 8 to 12 hours of continuous use. One company's system requires replacing the standard truck alternator with one that produces more amp power, and then they have a split A/C system powered off an 8 battery array. The other company's system doesn't require any change in alternator but depends upon a special electronic regulator during the charging cycle--and it uses only 4 batteries. Anyone have one of these systems on their truck? If so, how long does it last during a 34 hr reset in Phoenix?

I've been looking at the propane generator approach too. There's a company in Salinas, CA that will sell a new trucker oriented system beginning the middle of this month. They claim Propane is cheaper than diesel at the BTU level, and is available to RVer's at Pilot, T/A, etc., and with some sensible conservation, and battery back-up a 25lb tank should last a reset period even in Arizona or Florida. The Salinas, CA company claims that it's DOT legal to carry the tanks. Another option is the Cummins propane generator, but it doesn't have autostart features in conjunction with the vehicle's battery system.
