  1. Inside the Rig - CDL School Week #1

    by , 06.29.2012 at 07.53 AM
Training started Monday. Week one is now completed. This week I studied and passed my DMV exams for General Knowledge, Air Brakes, and Combinations. A 20-Day Commercial Learner's Permit is now in my possession, along with a 2 year Medical Certificate.

Monday and Tuesday were spent reviewing videos, reading, and taking practice exams on computer. Wednesday at lunchtime I went to the DMV and took my exams. I was happy I passed everything the first time. There's a lot to know ...

I thought I had posted on here last night. Doesn't look like it though. But I was so tired I kept zoning out. Figured when I kept bouncing my head on the keyboard I should probably go on to bed.
Now that I think about it.... I had typed out a blog. I vaguely remember bits of it. Apparently I failed to post it. Hmmm.... maybe that's a good thing.

So yesterday I bring my truck into the OC. I walk into the shop and start screaming and cussing and throwing things about..... ...

I've been goin in and out of the Pilot to cool off. Last time I went in I attempted to get a Mt. Dew Icee. But all the machines had been so used that they were freezing up. What lil bit I did score the manager just let me have. I got what I paid for; it kinda tasted like Nyquil. ...

  4. Schneider - In the Hot Seat

My DBL informed me we now have to abide by the P/U window on our list. I asked if the load planners or customer sets that. Customer. I called BS on that on count that it will waste 2-3 hours of my day because I will deliver that long ahead of delivery window; I'll spend that much time waiting. He agreed and said he was fighting on that account.

However; last night I'll have to give a slight pass, begrudgingly. The trailer I picked up had two faulty lights. (Thanks, guy who dropped ...

  6. Traffic

The new Rand McNally TND720, like it's older siblings the 710 and the smaller 510, has included the life time traffic by Navteq. This is also the same provider for the Garmin Nuvi465LMT(LT) and the 560LMT(LT) and most likely the new Cobra 8000 as well. And I suppose it's a wonderful feature and a good selling point IF you wish to spend the extra 80 bucks (for the Rand McNally receiver).

RBDS is the american moniker for Radio Broadcast Data System which basically, is a digital packet ...

  7. Schneider - So it Continues

A few days ago it came over the QualComm that another customer is being placed into the quasi-dedicated area of service like what I am doing now. Two things about the notice really stood out to me:
    1) From Corsicana, TX (maybe 100 mi SE of Dallas on I-45) to Houston area.
    2) Pay is mileage based.

I guess that's gonna be a total rookie run. And I mean total rookie; right out the egg. I'm only about nine months in and I wouldn't take a crap line like that. Corsicana to Houston ...
