Best of luck on not being laid off, and let's all hope that this merger works out.

Having been in LTL for many many years I understand what a crunch the LTL industry is going thru. The Yellow/Roadway thing takes my breath away everytime I think about it. What do you think is going to happen? Safe to assume you're a linehaul driver? Are you still working? Yellow's terminal is Columbus is incredible to look at, just about empty. Don't know what the Roadway terminal looks like. My husband retired long ago, but I stayed in the business until I got such a good offer from a TL carrier that I had to take it. My last LTL carrier was APA Transport, I loved that company. Good luck.

LOL, welcome to the world of LTL! Happens all the time. Your calm attitude would have disarmed her! Good for you!
I find taking out my book and reading gets them to realize I dont really care about the outcome, and they usually come and give me a door quickly. If they dont I get to read a bunch out of my good book!

I still like to be on the road but that sound like a good thing.
And I don't know if my wife would like to share her bed that often.

Now that is a great post. This is what one might expect. I have had a rough couple of days on the road. They have been during my first two weeks of driver OTR training. Have a real good trainer. My question is a bout the dispatcher. It is 8 pm and by all rights I have been sitting in East PA near Philly since 11am. Unloaded at 1230 and a new trip out of Reading. But the Reding trip was already gone. Double booked, whatever that means. Then a new trip to Baltimore, hurry get to MD and they will send the details... so on the road. Routing comes in and we are going to IN, but wait, there is a glitch. Cancelled. Thank God for WallyWorld. Of course this is after a missed trip to Cleveland leaving Newark last week. (That trip won't get you back in and does not make sense.) Let's get a new trip. Did get home on saturday AM. Is this normal?

Just to help you dream a little:

I took that picture last Thursday in Toronto at a train yard where we have an office.
But I don't think you could get one, they were supposed to build less than 7000 of them in 08 and they are all sold.
And they are on the way.

I took this next pic on Friday morning between Toronto and Detroit:

And look at that nice R/T model coming as an 09 model:

Looking forward to the photos. I grew up "small town" too. The big men on my High School campus were FFA members. I still remember the expensive but REALLY nice jackets. (They *do* know how to throw a bar-b-q)

You're right, it's not because you're a long haul driver that you can't have a life.

During the 1st 2 years at the company I'm at, I only missed 2 week-ends at home. One was a break-down, the other was because I was too late for a meat inspection at the border.

Now, I accepted to do some West Coast runs but my dispatch knows that he has to ask my wife 1st.

Anyway, I spent (almost) as much time at home as I (or my wife) want.

If you need remodeling advice, let me know. My trade for 26 years was (is) tile, marble and glass block installations. Remodeling bathrooms was a big part of my workload until the new housing boom started 5-6 years ago. There are some good forums online as well.
