The blog of blah. Ought to be called "Blahg." I discuss my experiences from CDL school on into driving, random crap annnnd..... other random crap. Or nothing. Either way.
This has been the worst day in a while. I shoulda stayed in bed at least another 30 minutes. It would have made all the difference. Actually, yesterday..... On my way to pick up.....we have to call for a "pep talk"; every single load we have to call in so they can read a script to us about how important this load is. So on my way there I call. I ain't gonna sit around waiting for them to answer the phone. It's against company policy to even use a hands-free phone while driving. ...
I've been dead in the water for over 24 hrs now. Strange how things work. I had a load for Sunday morning to Houston. Support calls me and asks if I mind switching to Round Rock because the driver on that run doesn't have enough hours. It delivers earlier than mine. Ok. So here I set ever since. I updated my time a couple different times hoping it would come back to their attention. I sent in a message to which I got no response. I understand, it's a holiday weekend ...
I'm not all that smart a guy, I know. So I'm having some real difficulty understanding something. Maybe one of y'all can throw me a bone here. So Monday around 15:30 I'm getting ready to throw some meat on the grill and have steak before I hit the road. My DBL calls and asks where I'm at. That kinda caught me off guard because I've never covered the satellite on my truck, it can still be tracked. Doesn't he know the truck is sitting right where I parked it at 01:30 Saturday? ...
After yet another hour on the phone (not like I has anything else to do) another random DBL asked how many hours I had. Same as I had two hours ago when I was told to update so I could get a load. "Ok. Then we'll get you a load. Ok?" Wow, thanks! I feel so much better about life now! You're a real sweetheart. A true diamond in the rough. True to her word, soon orders came in. Pick up the trailer I brought and deliver it. Dead head to Dallas, drop the ...
Remember the movie "Jaws"? On the boat, the shark hunters had their bonding moment and sang "Show me the way to go home. I'm tired and I wanna go to bed. I had a drink about an hour ago and it went straight to my head." I get up this morning hoping to see an assignment. Nay. Nay. So I finish up and leave heading to the T-n-A. Miss the turn. Apparently they feel that if you miss the turn then you have to pay a stupid tax and buy even more fuel. Next turn around, ...
What a fun day. Last night they sent me an assignment that picks up at 1300 today; go the the OC in Indianapolis for an MT. So I shagged on over to the OC so I could start the day with fresh set of hours. I wake up at 11:30 and get moving...sorta. The lot for MTs was loaded with trailers that were all locked out. Apparently I wasn't the only driver having this issue. One guy went into the OC and asked for a trailer. They gave him a number that wasn't here. *sigh* ...
Sitting at consignee right now. Live unload. They come to the window and say, "slight problem. Your paperwork is right. But the seal is wrong and the load on your trailer is not what we ordered. This is a first for us." Yeah. Me too. The seal is off by one digit. But the paperwork does show this trailer for this load. The shipper simply loaded the wrong trailer. I call my DBL, get a different one who transfers me to claims. Claims says, "isn't ...
