Friday wound up my LAST DAY at Continental Truck Driver Training & Education. Can't say how glad I am. Two days of sitting in a hard chair under a shade tree watching the new guys practice..... BAH! I'm ready to get a paycheck! I had talked to McElroy on Thurs and told them that I could be at orientation Monday if it was available. She told me it wasn't and that I should be at school continuing my training. I wanted to laugh and tell her that since I have my CDL my training ...
Today was an eventful day. Mel and Jay tested today. Mel had failed the test Friday; failed out on air brake test because he forgot to push the knobs in before doing the test. He nailed it well today. Jay had failed out yesterday on the parallel parking. He hit it spot on and got his walking papers. After lunch they were both ordered to the office to get their certs and get outta Dodge. Rob & Fred tried to get me out today or tomorrow as well (partly at my request so ...
Today began my final week at Continental. I say "final week" with a grain of salt. 4 of us took our road test at DMV. One guy failed it again for the 5th time (been here 3 months.) Another guy failed it for the first time. One other guy failed it last FRIDAY for his first time and two people passed it today on their first run. I PASSED! WOOT! WOOT! Ohhhh yeahhhhh... dawg! My parallel was sloppy, but good enough for government work. I dunno WTF happened ...
There is another thing I meant to mention. The driver trainers, smart alecks they are, so I'm sure it's all in jest this one particular thing they like to say. But when we students are already pretty sensitive to the matter it really... REALLY resonates the wrong way. We can't take it as a joke because we suspect they really do feel this way. What's the joke? One of us may suggest: "Say teach, since we aint doin anything right now, what say you jump in the truck ...
Today was fairly uneventful. We began the day with our usual hour long bull session. Was just me, another guy and Robert. My rommie bailed as soon as we got there. The other guy practiced his backing while Robert and I talked about the biz and Rob's spin on teaching. Says the reason he's so rough is because he's taught long enough he can instantly spot when the driver's mind is drifting. So, Robert gives em hell. He said that gets their attention better than anything. Just saying, ...
School today started with a whimper. For about the first hour or so only 3 of us were present, me, another student and one instructor, Robert. Ray keeps to himself a lot. Robert LOVES the sound of his own gravelly voice. I'm learning that Robert's no dummy. When he's serious he can make quiet a bit of sense and can get some explaining done. He talked to me for over an hour. If all of his foul language was excluded we coulda cut our time to about 30 minutes. He explained ...
