  1. Schneider.... McElroy Truck Lines

by , 01.16.2012 at 05.03 PM (Blank Blog)
I finally got an assignment this afternoon. Heading to Mt. Vernon this evening for p/u delivering to Round Rock.

Interestingly enough, I got a call from my recruiter at McElroy Truck Lines. They wanted to know if I'd be interested in coming back to work for them. Wow. I never had an employer call me like that.

She said if I came back now I would still get paid .40 cpm and all was the same except the insurance was updated; 6 weeks salaried training blah, ...
  2. Schneider - Go Time!

by , 11.23.2011 at 12.35 AM (Blank Blog)
All is said & done. I am now sitting in my own rig! I spoke with our DBL about being home for Thanksgiving and he was very amicable.

Soon another DBL stopped me and asked if I could do her a huge favor. She had a driver at her desk discussing his load. Due to his hours and that he lives in El Paso, if he took this load he wouldn't make it home for Thanksgiving.

If *I* take it she can then assign me to a load delivering less than an hour from home. So I can drop ...
  3. Schneider - SQT Time

by , 11.21.2011 at 08.35 PM (Blank Blog)
This morning I began my SQT (Skills Qualification Testing.) Right out of the shoot they give us a TE evaluation then sent us to a road test instructor.

They handed me off and the later this day gets, the tireder I get and the more I reflect the worse I feel about who I was with.
This morning I was a lil anxious & nervous so I tried not to let his attitude or personality get to me. After all, we're only together for an hour or so. But it IS a "make or break" hour. ...
  4. Schneider - Training Day: The Final Slowdown

by , 11.18.2011 at 12.47 AM (Blank Blog)
Time is almost nigh. Tomorrow will be by final day of training whereas I will be heading from the West Memphis, AR O.C. back to the Dallas O.C. and head home for the weekend.

My SQT (Skill Qualification Test) is scheduled to begin Monday at 7. A couple of my co-trainees told me last night that when they went in for SQT that it was over booked, so it took them two days. God willing and the creek don't rise I'll be out in one.

They said they got their trucks assigned to them ...
  5. Schneider - The Adventure Continues

by , 11.10.2011 at 11.38 PM (Blank Blog)
This morning we got under way after my TE finished her QualComm class. She says the new system will be much easier, especially for me not having so much time ingrained with this old system.

We made it to Louisville, KY where we met up with a hometown friend of mine who delivers new trucks, Drive-Away. He bought us grub at the Waffle House and we visited for a bit before heading out.

Right as he arrived another truck had pulled in carrying luxury cars and was having to ...

  6. Schneider - Adventures in Driving

by , 11.10.2011 at 12.44 AM (Blank Blog)
What can I say? I've done almost all the driving. Yesterday I logged 400 miles exactly.

Today we left Menomonie, WI. In my first week now I have driven in the snow, saw a deer on the RR tracks, saw a county worker with a trailer load of roadkill deer and my TE spotted a bear on the side of the road. (A REAL bear, not a cop.)

We ran hard straight to Indianapolis to the Schneider OC. I pulled into the yard with one minute left on my drive clock. Woulda made it just a lil ...
  7. Schneider - 1 Day Old Trucker

by , 11.08.2011 at 01.18 AM (Blank Blog)
    Finally I'm a rollin!

Last night we got a late start. As I'd mentioned before, the starter was out on our truck. The mechanic at the Dallas OC put the wrong starter on it. What should have been about an hour long job turned into all day.

Finally they told us we were ready to go. Then the interior lights wouldn't come on and we were readin "low voltage." Our ace mechanic put a wire on wrong. Didn't take em long to fix that.

Then they wrote us an order ...
