The local job I had cut my hours by 50%, so I had to make a move. I wasn't beat up over it, because I was tired of local work anyway. I applied with a company I previously applied for back in 2009. They didn't have any openings then...but they did this time. They run the southeast and have a terminal right near my house. Perfect! Landed the job back in June of 2012 and been here since. Miles are great, hometime is great(a little more than I'd like actually), and the loads are gravy. I am really glad to be back OTR(regional).

Also, on Nov 27th 2012...was my 5 year anniversary. Including the 1.5 years local, I've reached 482,000 miles. I was off the road for 3 months in late '09...so if it weren't for that I'm sure 1/2 million miles would have been surpassed. Have had 2 minor accidents and one speeding ticket, all within my first year of driving. Rookie mistakes I guess.

No longer OTR after 2.5 years

In September of 2010, I landed a local gig delivering tires in south GA/north FL. Great pay, home every night, and working 4 days a week driving a single axle 06 Freightliner Columbia daycab with a single axle pup trailer. Sounds good right?

At first I thought I had it made. I was so glad to be home every night and using my own facilites after living the lifestyle for the last 2.5 years. It was a couple months later that I started to miss the OTR lifestyle. I miss driving for hours on end with nothing but the thoughts in my head to keep me company. I miss waking up every morning in a different state and seeing the many different sights. I miss the challenge of driving in all types of weather conditions.

Funny, when I was OTR...all I wanted in the world was to have a local job with good pay and home every night. I wanted to be able to have my life back.

Now that Ive got all that...home every night with a good paying job, all I can think about are the times I had when I was OTR. I see trucks pass me, and I remember when that was me in the seat...driving from Iowa to Alabama...Michigan to Texas...North Carolina to California. I truly miss long haul, but I know that if I go back, I will slip right into the same position I was in before.
