| | A Stranger In My HouseI'm sure I sound like a complete idiot. But I love my husband very much! I want him home all the time. It's not so mch being alone but its when he's home he never has enough time here to "get off the road" all he talks about is work, and I hear it everyday on the phone too. I'm not sure what I want but I do know I love him and I want him. |

| | Newbie Driverhi guys and galsthought I might drop on your post and stick my nose in this. First, I'm NOT a newbe! I've been in this job over 30 years and I'm going to ask you to remember something. This site like all others are occupied by two typs of people. like you their are the people new to the job, and people like me who are not.Drivers are negitive people. they always think the grass is greener and looking for the perfect job. THERE IS NO PERFECT JOB!!!!! Some are just not as bad as others. I happen to have a pretty good one at the moment. but that dosn't mean I won't change jobs. MAKE YOUR OWN DECISIONS, DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH!! the drivers you read on this and other sites are not happy with their prior company and will not be happy with their next company until they have jumped jobs so many times , so fast that they can't get a job anywhere. make a choice and stick with it. your first year will be needed to figure out how your new company works, the second year you can start making the company some money, from then you can start making you some money, don't believe for a minute your going to make more than about 50,000 a year. 35-40 will be about normal. doon't be a job hopper. and above all be a safe driver. there is nothing they can put on that truck that is worth yours or someone elses life. |

| | 18 wheel vs. bob tailI guess you just have to be there, there's a BIG difference between driving a semi and a bobtail. any semi driver can drive a bobtail. Not every bobtail driver can drive a semi. I don't want to be home every nite, I get home at least every turn.(however long that is) but has been working out to about 3 days every week to 10 days. It varies, but it works for me. The time may come when I want or need to be home more. but right now, the road is the place for me. |

| | Wait until March??Yep, I hear ya and that is what the streets and trucker's are telling me.....one guy I met at the unemployement office is a trucker for a company that hires graduates like crazy. He tells me the miles were good at 1st and then he could barely take home $300/ week. He quit his job and that company has him listed as on medical leave. The guy said they barely make ends meet and thank goodness that his wife was working two part time jobs. Personally, I would be tempted to hire the experienced driver's...yet I would also want to give a few new guys the opportunity to gain experince.........groan, this darn economy ! |

| | Wait until March??I hear ya loud-n-clear, I have been driving since May and it seems like I can not get any miles but yet they are hiring like crazy! My wife is about to join me and she has to wait until after the first of the year to start school, which is fine for us. Here is what I do know, the company I am with is focusing totaly on experienced drivers. This is because a lot of companys are shutting their doors and that leaves a lot of experienced drivers with no jobs. What would you hire first? Experienced or Unexperienced? Good luck. |

| | Need Help With decisioni could ask aroundwell i personally haven't any experience with them only their drivers. wasn't impressed with a few of prime's drivers. but my dad was a driver for 28 yrs and i always try to talk over the companies before i decide. he had an accident 5 yrs ago that took his legs so it keeps him up on his trucking as well as he knows more about some of this than his braindead daughter. i really got the bug from him. but i like reefer than i do anything else so i want to try to stick with that. |

| | Hubby and his ToolsNo problem here...This seems to be a common complaint from the gals.My shop is detatched from the house and I got tired of hearing the same thing.Cell phones don't work because you can't always answer. So I rigged up a loud doorbell so I can hear it over the tunes. All she has to do is push the button in the house and I know it's dinner time..If it rings that second time,I know I better run like the wind... ![]() |

| | What to take when you go outyou'll want to take at least 3 sets of clothes depending on how long you plan to be out. some money for eating, ask your friend on what all he will need help with while you are with him/her. extra towel, just so you have an extra if needed or have to stop at one of the turnpike rest areas for a shower, they don't supply them. |
