Every August.........sigh
This last weekend, I re-planted a few of the shrubs that we had as I wasn't crazy about where we had planted them before.
So I got my trusty shovel out in this HOT weather and went to town digging holes and re-planting in different areas.
(The next day, I could not lift a fork I was so sore....
)GOT this all done and WOW! It looked so good and I had room for more! LOL
SO, hubby and I went to a Garden center and bought three more Rose of Sharons. I was specific in my color choices too. Wanted two REDS and one BLUE. LOL
YOU never really know what you are getting as far as color till they bloom next year anyway. I have purchased them before with tags saying they are a certain color and ending up with something else.
Hubby says we can't plant any more as we are full up.

Iam not sure what will happen next August, when I get this ... "wanting to plant something again".

Hmmm...That flower bed near the road needs some more stuff

| | I have found out with Rose of Sharons that it's not so much the fertilizer but water. They thrive on water and need plenty of it. Lot's of sunshine which isn't hard up here this year to get. It's been a dry sunny year for us and I have been watering them every day and they are blooming up a storm! I found that if they receive water till it get's cold, then this sets them for a cold winter and they come back strong in the spring. |

| | YOU can plant them now even in two weeks. But if they are small, (height below 3 1/2 feet) you might want to cover them for the winter, depending on where you are and how cold you get. When mine were small, I covered them the first winter, after that you don't need to. YOU can cover them with a tarp or garbage bag and set stones on it to keep it that way. But don't cover them till they lose their leaves and the temps start to go down. When planting, make sure they have a deep hole, and fill the hole with water then plant the Rose of Sharon. Fill with dirt. Water next day really good. YOU don't have to drown them, but give them plenty. They should do real well. The blue one that I just planted this last weekend is alreay blooming and its only like 3 feet tall and leaves are deep green. So, it must be happy. lol |
