Brick walls must be knocked down

Posted 07.02.2009 at 03.42 PM by ghostchild
TruckersI wish I weren't so stubborn...but I realize life is short...and I just don't want to spend whatever time I have left doing something I don't find enjoyable or unfulfilling.
Trucking conditions you towards 'independence' more so than other jobs...
When you fill out applications, they always ask 'who was your supervisor'...and my first inclination is to write down 'I didn't need nor have a 'supervisor' I had a dispatcher'...
Truckers, for the most part work without supervision...ye we're watched and tracked...but your still doing your own thing.

This is a defining moment for me...you I could run back to my former company, and probablly get my job back...but how would I feel about myself a week later??
Or I can stick it out and face 'whatever'...
It seems brick walls are everywhere...behind you, in front of you, to your left and right...
But I'm the type I'd rather die, than surrender.
Companies want to own and control so much of you these days...now all companies are begining to ask for a 10 year work history...all want to pry into your life and background, I find that sickening...
TruckersThat's why I want to start my own company...even if it's just a courier service with one van...or a taxi/shuttle business...with one van or car...
I'm tired of trying to convince other people of my worth...they will never see it...
It's a balancing game...cause if you act to 'eager' they get threatened, as if your going to take their position...but if you don't act eager enough...they think you lack motivation...
But sometimes it's hard to get thrilled at doing the same repetitave task over and over again...like a 3rd world assembly plant...
Man needs to grow and be constantly challenged....one reason why the turn over in trucking is so high...trucking lacks career advancement opportunity...you have drivers in their 60's still doing what they did when they were 20...continued at a later time or place...

Yes, I know about reflexology...the next time I have issues with part of my body, I'll study this diagram...I don't mean to sound 'ungrateful' or 'rebellious' against trucking...cause trucking has been good to me...the pay...the travel...
But my hey days were from 1998-2005...after that it or I just changed...
Back then companies would send you all over...you could be on the east coast and it did not matter...they would still send you out west...so you were always seeing new things....but now...like the last company I was with...it was just I-95 or 1-81....I don't think I ever went further west than I-75....
After a while it just becomes a long boreing dull commute...they don't understand that...the human facter....we're not robots...we need to be continually challenged and sent different places...to stimulate our interest.
In the past...it did not feel like a job...it felt like a adventure...cause back then I could leave Seattle and end up in Nashville and from Nashville end up in Miami...and from Miama end up in Omaha....now that's trucking...and that's how companies use to run solo drivers...I miss those days...but now it's Jersey, Jessup MD...back to Jersey to scranton PA back to Jersey back to Jessup then home....
I'm seeking a local job now...anything...I even applied to be a delivery driver at Aarons furniture...I don't care...I just want to be home...
I also want to get into comedy...and the workshop begins on July 11....I so want to attend it...I really want to take my life in a different direction...

It's hard and scary at times...that's why I often compare it to a marriage....when you've been married for years..for some it becomes a marriage of convience...and if you leave...you face a lot of uncertainty...which makes some stay...

I'm not wired like that though...sometimes I wish I were though...
Anyhow....I put out about 5 applications yesterday....all over the internet....continued on next post...

Truckers are at a disadvantage when we apply for other jobs...cause most truckers have had many many driving jobs...and employers arent use to seeing that...their use to people having one job every 5 years....they don't understand the high turn over rate in trucking due to the nature of being away from home and all..So when you put down like 6 or 7or 9 employers over the last 10 years...they freak...

I could get back into trucking maybe only as a team....east coast west coast runs only....that I could do...
I could do team...something I've never done before except when I first started with Schnieder....
Maybe I'll check into that...cause I know If I solo again...it will be Jersey and PA and MD and Jessup...'scream'....
If I team...it will be Texas and New Mexico and California and Oregon...'Yes'....

Let me go do some investigating and research...Truckers
