Wal-mart jokes no longer work...due to the economy..

Posted 07.29.2009 at 10.53 AM by ghostchild
Hi, the going joke has always been if all else fails...get a job at Wal-mart or McDonalds, as someone told me the other day on here...

Truth is...with economy being the way it is...even getting a job at Wal-mart and or McDonalds is a highly competitve task...

With everyone loosing jobs...where do you think they turn?...with high school kids and college students scrounging for money...where do you think they turn?....with more and more of this nations luxritave manufacturing jobs going over seas, and the closer of Ford, GM, Chrylser plants...where do you think they turn?

yes...Walmart and McDonalds...

Houstan...we have a problem here...

i just called a local Wal-mart and they said they have a 'full house' as do the others...no one is quiting anymore...people are hanging on to jobs they don't like...cause in this society...you need money.
Even fast food joints are hanging on to their employees....
The only places that are hiring are places where you take all the risks...like Taxi companies or sales companies...where it's straight commisions....
Again...this is where a lot of ex truckers have problems...or why so many return...many drivers quit with high hopes of moving on...but soon find out the job market away from trucking, has no need for me, you, us, them.
The only way to combat that is to either go back to school (money and time most don't have) or start your own business...which many can do if they have their own van or car...do you know how easy it is to convert your car into a taxi? You can by meters on line...just a business idea for you.

And if you have your own van...many places hire couriers...you can bring in 500-600 a week...more than many drivers are making now...and be home nightly and daily...I don't know why more guys don't do that...

As far as trucking goes...about the best I can do right now is a home weekly...type of deal...the thought teeters in my mind as things get tighter and tighter...
This is unfolding drama...

In closing...advice for newer younger drivers...if your just now getting into driving...do yourselves a favor...and while out on the road, enroll in some kind of on line college...prepare yourself for the day when the passion for driving will no longer be there....
i will continue this in the comment section...

When I look in the paper there seems to be a high demand for Managers...like fast food resturant managers, small stores...
I advice you to take accounting, business, managorial type classes that will prepare you for life after trucking...

cause even though you manage a lot as a trucker...that doesnt translate well to the other side...they just look at you cock eyed...like 'what does 20 years of trucking have to do with running a Hess fuel station.

Also create a resume...resumes are better at pointing out skills and qualifications you may have that just arent apparent on a application....that's one issue I'm having now...

Drive today...but prepare for tomorrow.
And if your lucky enough to have a driving job now...where your home on weekends and throughout the week...keep it, consider yourself 'blessed'...in a wordly sense.

Sanford and Son get pulled over for hauling unregisterd junk...as i drove by i heard 'Lamount..you big dummy!'
