It has been an interesting few weeks, lots of changes and new things to get used to.
Doc has been home once, for 2 whole days, in the past 9 weeks or so. He was able to bring his truck home, and left the trailer at the park and ride about a mile from our home. He was and still is proud as punch of his truck, and had a huge grin on his face while talking with neighbours who stopped for a chin wag. He has a truck that has drawn a lot of sympathy and criticism from other drivers....a Volvo 780,...

Hometime

Posted 08.12.2009 at 08.22 PM by kiwi kid
Well, Doc got to come home on Sunday night. I had work Monday with a 3am start. But as least we got to spend some time with each other, and he got to spend some time with the kids too. It was sooo hard not to cry when he left on Monday night, but I did manage to keep it held together until he drove off. Sheesh, I hope this gets easier as time goes on. As he drove off, I was filled with pride that this man of mine who, at age 53 was laid off, has managed to retrain and pass all tests and exams, and...

So, Doc has passed the final test and is now O-fficially and truck driver. I'm excited and happy for him, but miss him so.
The thing that gets me is this; his mentor was an awesome guy, meticulous etc and taught Doc a lotand really helped him out, but also liked his hometime. He lives in different state than us, so when he went home Doc had to go with him.....12 days all told that he got to spend with his family, and we got zilch. I mean, they were super nice to Doc, basically made him part...

Well, I did part of the job I had set myself to do in the garden. It got so dang hot, I drank lots of water and of course had to keep going inside for a pitstop. I had planted 2 willow trees in the area that had already been cleared, and they were looking a bit sad so I thought I'l get the hose and leave it to do a slow soak. While I was doing this The Doctor called, so we were happily conversing while I was potting around. Now, we have a cat who likes to climb trees and generally play silly buggers...

Well, the best laid plans of mice and men etc......its looking like The Doctor won't be home on the 30th. I has a sad, and I know he does too, he was looking forward to spending 2 or 3 days with us.

There are so many things going on right with my family in New Zealand, mostly good stuff, and I find myself yearning to be a part of it. My mum has been over for visits, and has thoroughly enjoyed herself. Mum absolutely adores Doc, thinks hes the best thing since sliced bread. Go figure....

Im new to this life of trucking, and being a trucker's wife. I wasn't really sure what to expect, I had only heard what my brother in law has said about his life on the road.

My hubby has always wanted to be a trucker. He went with his brother on a few trips and really enjoyed it. So, being laid off in March was the catalyst he needed to go ahead with his dream. After all, there weren't any offers knocking at the door for a 50 mumble year old.

He went to truck school,...
