The Change of Ops.

Posted 07.14.2008 at 10.41 AM by latanea
Roadway had a major change of operations that went in to effect yesterday...

80% of our runs will be "meet and turn" which is much like UPS package's way of making sure drivers are in their own bed at the end of the day...

So last night I ran to claysville Pennsylvania - met a Carlsile driver - swapped trucks and headed back home.

I live very close to the terminal and turning back every day suits me fine.

In the past I would be in my own bed 3-5 nights a week - now it looks like probably have 4-6 nights a week in my own bed (maybe more)...

Time will tell how well this works out - I know some guys are mad due to the fact that they live HOURS away and do not want to drive their 4 wheelers in every day...

Time will tell.

Freight levels seem to have bottomed out and are steady now.... REDUCED but steady.

We are poised to service customers QUICKLY with this new setup.. we always had a "pony express" way of doing things - but now it is refined and streamlined so that we can get a truck from NYC to LA quicker than a truckload carrier with a team driving the rig... the truck will run non stop with a swap of drivers and fuel every 400-625 miles (terminal to terminal)

I am excited - I wish the new system well and hope Roadway will be around another 80 years!

I still like to be on the road but that sound like a good thing.
And I don't know if my wife would like to share her bed that often.
