yard sale day
good god - it looks like a zombie invasion out on the street....

we did not gather anything up for this one - the wife has to work 8-6 today and I will be going out this afternoon...
regardless I might take a few things over to the neighbors to sit with their stuff...

last year 90% of the "customers" did not speak english or acted like they wanted everything for a dollar...
we decided to just take everything left over and donate it to st. vincent de paul (a charity resale shop)
we taxed it all off - and will bypass the hassle of yardsales from now on...
(straight to the junk shop)

so by this time I hope some of you have noticed that I have a pretty normal life "at home"... and that you can CAN still be an OTR trucker and be home with family and friends.
too many guys are brainwashed into thinking that the only way to make a living in a truck is to be gone from everything important in their lives for weeks on end.

many times I have been called a liar on this board - and told that I was fibbing - and that
"NO WAY CAN YOU BE HOME THAT MUCH AND STILL RUN MILES"

as I have stated before - my purpose in this blog is to show the normalcy and the day to day living that I as a freight teamster have.
(and it is available for most anyone willing to look for these jobs...)

truth is I have a life again - the last 4 years have been wonderful.
my first several years trucking I was a road dog - and had to be lest I go broke.
life is so much more easy now - and the pace has allowed me to enjoy my hobbies and my family.

think about it - it is the truth -
there are options out there if you want to get out of an 18 wheel prison sentence.
so where will I go tonight?
probably a chicago turn (300 miles up - drop hook - 300 miles back)
maybe a detroit turn - or perhaps a carlisle laydown... (bed).
dunno - dont care - they all pay the same.

| | You're right, it's not because you're a long haul driver that you can't have a life. During the 1st 2 years at the company I'm at, I only missed 2 week-ends at home. One was a break-down, the other was because I was too late for a meat inspection at the border. Now, I accepted to do some West Coast runs but my dispatch knows that he has to ask my wife 1st. Anyway, I spent (almost) as much time at home as I (or my wife) want. |
