Important Truckers Forum Notice!

Thought I'd share my experiences as I start a new career at 52. By this age, most people would be thinking of retirement and not starting over. I'll try to keep you informed how it goes.

Going out with a trainer

Posted 1 Week Ago at 05.23 AM by ParkRanger
Saturday I'm going to meet my trainer n Laurinburg and hit the highway!! After being told that I'd have to go to IL and meet a trainer, things changed yesterday and now I'll be closer to home. Drove a guy to the airport who had been out for two weeks with his trainer and is heading home for his first time in 6 weeks. Will update you on training when I get a chance.

After first week at Specialized training

Posted 2 Weeks Ago at 05.48 AM by ParkRanger
Well, I've been at Laurinburg for a week. We learned how to secure and tarp glass this week. Interesting and somewhat spooky when you first see those giant sheets of glass that you gotta tie down to your trailer. But I manages not to get cut and have another week to look forward to something. We're really not sure what we'll be doing this week and there are 5 drivers waiting for trainers, as well as 2 more in my group, so I'm hoping that I'm not just gonna be hanging out at Laurinburg. Oh well,...

I'm a Maverick Driver!

Posted 3 Weeks Ago at 05.28 PM by ParkRanger
Finished Orientation and a little training and will be on my way to specialized (glass) training tomorrow for a week. So far I must say that I am very impressed with the Maverick facilities, staff, and equipment. I will post updates when I have a chance.

Going to Maverick Orientation

Posted 10.29.2008 at 05.12 PM by ParkRanger
Sunday (Nov. 2) I'll be at Orientation with Maverick Specialized in Little Rock, AR, then (if all goes well), back to Laurenburg, NC for Securement training. I'm just back from the mountains where I had a few spectacular days with my wife and 2 dogs. Hopefully they won't miss me too much while I'm gone. It's nice to be looking forward to going to (paid) work after we closed our business and all the school time. I'll try to keep you posted on how the orientation and training goes.

School's Out!

Posted 10.24.2008 at 04.46 PM by ParkRanger
Well, we had graduation this morning and it was very emotional. Out a class that started with 31, we graduated 20. We had 8 who had A's (which is a lot more than any other class). I'm hoping to here for a company on Monday about a job, but will be in a cabin in the mountains for a few days to destress. Thanks for all of your support.
