Fedex driver hoping to be an owner/operator

Posted 16 Hours Ago at 04.03 PM by ALS
I'm currently driving for a Fedex Ground owner and eventually want to buy a contract for myself. I drive the standard truck and do day deliveries/pick-ups only, no over-the-road 18-wheeling for me.
I'm interested in discussing the ins & outs of bidding on contracts, etc.
Please respond if you can give feedback in this area.

03-21-2010: Health Care Race Card

Posted 16 Hours Ago at 03.51 PM by BrunoK
Only a highly indoctrinated, brain dead Progressive could turn health care arm breaking into an issue of race, but listening to the quacking heads on TV today the brain dead have apparently been successful. So OK, I'm easy. I'll play.

People of color such as the once heroic Georgia Congressman, John Lewis bravely and rightly marched arm in arm for freedom in 1965. We've been reminded of it all day. Unfortunately many of these same people of color foolishly allowed themselves to...

The Recruiting Process To Date

Posted 17 Hours Ago at 03.00 PM by highflight1985
To be honest, I never expected I'd be sitting here writing about the recruiting process with Swift. I had initinally wanted to go with Werner based on the fact that my brother used to work for them and based on my own research. But, things with Werner fell through due to a couple of reasons which aren't important. The point is that my second choice was Swift. My brother had nothing but bad things to say about them, but he was in the industry almost 10 years ago. I sure hope things have changed and...

International vs. Peterbilt: Pinto vs. Cadillac

Posted 18 Hours Ago at 02.00 PM by highflight1985
Since I started the driving portion in my school, I had been driving a well-used 2004 International 9400, 10 speed. The gears have been worn down so badly by new students that even the instructor grinds gears. After having driven it every day for 3 weeks, I've been promoted to a 2004 Peterbilt 387. I'd like to take a moment and compare the two...

The International reminds me of my first car. Used. Worn out. Somewhat neglected. Slow. But...I've gotten used to it and actually somewhat...

How I Got Free Training

Posted 19 Hours Ago at 01.00 PM by highflight1985
Updated 15 Hours Ago at 04.17 PM by highflight1985
Seriously, I was able to get my training for free. The only thing it cost me was a lot of time and effort, and the gas to get from my home in south Georgia to my parents' house back in Texas. I don't have to pay any student loans and I don't have any contracts with anyone. Here's how I did it...

Firstly, let me say that what I did was 100% legal, but it can never be done again, by anyone. But, it's a good story...

I was on the phone one day in January with my brother...

Random bat tests

Posted 21 Hours Ago at 10.34 AM by BurmaBoy
I NEED A LAWYER WHO'S AN EXPERT ON DOT REGS.
I was given a random bat test, even tho I was 'off duty'. My logs were truned into the safety dept. at 1600 hours. They pulled me in at 2200 for the test.
Only one blow showed a reading - and there was no CONFIRMATION blow result either.
The company did not follow DOT 40.265 guidelines.
I've won the UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIMS and now want to file WRONGFUL TERMINATION and LIABLE law suit.

A Little History

Posted 22 Hours Ago at 10.00 AM by highflight1985
Hello everyone.

Please allow me a moment to regale you with a little history about me. I am 24 years old and have a 3 month old daughter at the time I write this. I am former Air Force. I have been dealt many curve balls in the last few years, which has led me to where I am now in the midst of an expected and unwanted career change. However, my daughter is the most important thing in my life, so no matter how much I'd rather be doing something else, I am determined to make the best...
