Lemme shed a little truth on this comment. I work for Boyd and love it. Im rolling miles and still getting home on weekends and its 3 days b4 Christmas. Yes they did terminate all but 12 o/o and are not allowing company drivers to lease at this time. The trucks and trailers u see at the Birmingham yard are up for sale. They are currently updating the fleet to new prostars and freightliners. They are trying to sale the trucks on the yard but as we all know with the slow freight its kinda hard.

Boyd also took voluntary layoffs for month of December. Needless to say I wasnt one of them. Yes Boyd has its ups and downs, but I currently am driving a 2007 international 9400 with an apu. My fuel bonus EVERY month averages between 150.00 to 225.00. Dont know about u, but extra money is good money. Thats above and beyond the miles ive been running. Yes, Boyd does expect u to prove yourself and its not hard. They dont question u about a darn thing as long as your doing what is asked.

Any other questions I will be happy to answer. It might help to get info from a current, "happy", employee as opposed to someone who doesnt know or hates the company. As for anyone who would like to work for Boyd, they are on a hiring freeze til after the holidays. Get your app in though, . Recruitment bonus is another good thing. LOL God Bless and have a Merry CHRISTMAS to everyone.

She is head of recruiting and will be able to let you know whats goin on. You wont be disappointed. There are up and downs with any company and with Boyd, u do for them they WILL do for you. Just a question, do u have any flatbed expierence???

No I don't have any flatbed experience. Althought I have been driving commercially for 10 years I fall into the 0-3 months of OTR dry van. However I am a fast learner and I always strive from 100% in what ever I do. I started out as a motorcoach driver in December of 1998 and in October of 2008 when I left my last employer (long story) I was the operations manager. I also hired and trained new drivers for motorcoach as well as being the company safety officer. Attended training right beside MD dot officers. My passion though has always been big trucks and in 2006 went for it, but a family medical emergancy brought me home, so that is why I'm in the 0-3 month catagory. I have a very clean record, my last ticket was in 2003. I have only had one accident in 15 years back in 2007 where I was rear ended by a vehicle that was rear ended by a guy talking on a cell phone not watching what he was doing.

The current economic times are going to be interesting to see who gets sucked up by whom. Voluntary lay-offs? Selling trucks and trailers? Not a good sign.

A lot of the these companies were leveraged up to their ### in debt...we'll see who gets bought out (few) and who go belly up(more).SND,try BTC out of Memphis. They have a Pittsburgh terminal and Billy the mgr. there is great, he's an old driver and he hustles freight. It's not uncommon to see him loading trailers and tarping and chaining freight. How many other terminal mgrs will do that?

You're right about that...the "yellow bus" will go every day...
If you want to get back on the road...try BTC out of Memphis...

Actually it isnt a bad sign. What Boyd has done to stay up and running is only filling 2 out of every 3 trucks when drivers quit. As far as the trailers its because at Boyd we do a lot of drop and hook where we can. We just lost the fertilizer plant in Alabama that had around 60 trailers there at any givin time. So what do you do with those 60 trailers??? Ahhh......sell them. Also, on the good note, even with the hard times they are still updating trucks. They just got i think round 100 new trucks between oct and now that they are still spreading out. So also, as far as the light, its getting brighter and brighter as the weeks roll on. Im still running 2200 plus miles per week and still home on fridays. So you tell me the down side of that???

SND, as far as the expierence goes, its doesnt matter what it is. as long as it is over 3 months. Flatbedding isnt for the lazy though. A lot of people dog us cause we actually work for a living. Its an eazy job once you get the swing of things. It all becomes a process and when you find out what works for you its a sinch. I think they are gonna start hiring back soon though. So if youre still interested call recruiting asap and talk to Betty Nix. Tell her i told you to call and she will help you out with what she can. Keep me posted on whats goin on.

Hytek, how are things at Boyd. I got a call today from a Ms. Sanders, and she asked if I was still interested, and I signed the DOT forms. How long is this process? I live in Pa. so I assume that I will go to orientation in Ohio. She told me to call back in a day or 2. I have a pre-hire from FFE...American Eagle, but my wife and kids need the weekend home time. Sounds like a good company, and Im not afraid to work. Sounds to me like that is the key....like you mentioned...u do for them and they will do for u. Im ok with that. Sorry, I cant pm you or I would have. I have a few more questions.
