Hi, I am a pretty new driver but managed to find work driving as a team from mississauga to calgary to california and back to mississauga.
i sort of get along with the co driver i got stuck with, he's a nice enough guy but an aggressive driver and I could list the things I don't like about his driving but I do not have the time. Ok I'll list a few, drives to fast for the road conditions, grinds gears to the point of the whole truck and trailer violently shaking, does not understand that brakes overheat and found out the hard way after they started smoking big time, follows to close, hit another truck at a truck stop, hit a light pole in a small town, got stuck in the sand on a uphill dirt track meant for railway workers not semi's...ok that's enough....
Anyways this is a small company and all us drivers have to be incorporated, yes i know, they are to cheap to pay for health care and and benefits. Many ppl claim its a scam but even some big companies have their company drivers be incorporated, such as blue line in milton..
So then, the boss says I can find my own team driver.
You have to be incorporated, we each get $0.19 per mile and $0.21 after 3 months. payment is every 2 weeks by cheque, the first 2 weeks being held back but all payments being giving if you were to quit.
I'm looking for an easy going person that thinks safety first, I realize now how hard it is to sleep when you have your life passing before your eyes in the sleeper.
I want a really good smooth shifter because in california there are lots of hills and we will be on roads where you will have to stop while on a steep hill and need to get moving without shaking the truck like a earthquake is happening. As I am a new driver with about 7 loads I am willing to drive with another new driver that has some good basic skills.
if you have experience thats even better, but remember I am a new guy and I have lots to learn, but for a new guy I am doing rather well.
I am still getting use to being out for over a week at a time and some times I get so tired that I pull over for 30 minutes to rest. The trucks are all Volvo's and a bit messy. The owner seems to only fix things when you ##### enough about it. For example, the air conditioner has a habit of not working in more then 1 truck, and that's tough when its 94F in Nevada like this week, but when you point out the problems it gets fixed, or I just pull into a service bay on the road and get it fixed with the money he gives you before each trip.
You'll have to pay for health insurance, I pay $46 and it covers me up to 5 million plus ambulance and return trip to canada if needed. You have to file 2 tax returns, a business tax and a personal tax, so you need to save all receipts for anything you spend for the job as you can claim it as a business expense. When i first started posting and said a company wanted me to be incorporated lots of ppl went off the deep end saying its a scam and not to do it, but its really quite simple, you just have to pay your own tax at the end of the year as tax is not deducted from your pay cheque.
Please speak and write fluent english, don't smell bad, be a nice guy, ect ect ect:biggrin_255:

You're out of your mind working for slave wages with NO benefits and paying source deductions.

What did Forrest Gump say about stupid again?

Run. Run away and don't look back. Do it now.

Because I know you'll never believe me, call Canada Revenue and ask them about that arrangement for incorporating. You're not going to like the answer.

Well that company dosn't sound to great to me but what most of these guys replying don't understand about team drivers is they may only get 19 to 21 cpm but it's on all miles the truck moves, yours and your co-driver.
