Hello there everyone I was wondering if anybody could give me details on SGT and how they are to work for. I have an oppurtunity to take a road test for them and was wondering how strict they are when it comes to that. i am a newly licnsed driver and have only been operating cement mixers locally. Thanks

Where is the road test in Brampton or Quebec as long as you do the way you did for the MTO you wouldn't have to worry about anything, One thing I always did was to ask the examiner how would he like me to do everything as per MTO or company and most of the time they will tell you the things company focuses on more any ways its mostly safe driving good Pre Trip.

Unless you hit something you should pass the test fine!!!
Run an old mack with a 10 speed when i'd done it before. Go with MTO specs then they will tell you how the pin/unpin is old school and there fine you pin then connect air lines and disconect airlines then unpin.
Was all set to go then had some personal crap take place so never did hit the road with them. Ended up doing some closer to home stuff. -
Hey guys thanks for the replies, I haven't gone on the road test for them because I got a job pulling dump trailer and I'm home everynight and the money is decent. It's only a seasonal job beacause in the winter here constrcution is pretty quiet so I may give SGT a call in the fall when it slows down. I appreciate the helpful replies.

don't call them. they were a carrier we toured during our carrier tours back in school. the lady in brampton there is very very nice, but the reception elsewhere was lacking, a head honcho there, some huuge round bloke literally threw up his hands and disgust and was like "why are u bothering me ask this fellow" when she went to ask him a question she couldnt answer, all of us students watching... all he was doing was pigging out on his mcdonalds..
the facility is very out of date, their drivers lounge features some wooden chairs and a 70's TV with a coat hanger stuck out of it.
This is how they present themselves to the future of the industry they do buisness in... Every other carrier; Schieder Kriska Bison, Mckinnon, Trimac, and White Oaks were all completely different on tour day. to our class that difference was black and white, we (the class) agreed unanimously we would never work for SGT -
I worked for them for a short spell, can't say I was very impressed personally. I was a new driver, but had done some yard work for some small company in the north for a couple of weeks first. After passing their driving test (drove around the block, nothing to worry about), I was put on with some trainer who only had a few months experience driving himself. I learned more about driving trucks from doing yard work than I did with my trainer and ended up teaching him a thing or two. The money wasn't great and I ended up going back north to that small little company before I moved overseas. Now I trained new employees here.

For a new driver that wants some adventure it is a great place to start. I spent 8 weeks over the road with a trainer including some runs to the far north, and the deep south. New truck to train in and great atmosphere to learn as well. I look forward to staying here for a while. I guess evryone is entitled to an opinion, and I have mine. SGT is a good starting point in this business and I hope to grow with them.

everything a liar says is the opposite of truth -
That is the program, They want you to learn "their way". What I say is true, I don't appreciate being called a liar. I actually learned a bunch of things that tuned me up and made me safer. I wish you all good luck.

well, you know the saying "if the shoe fits, wear it" ?
I don't appreciate being lied to either. Think about that.Last edited: Dec 21, 2012
