I got my dream job back home working for an awesome company. Made it out of the patch just in time. The tanker job I had was going downhill as they were losing alot of work.

The oil patch is really taking this price downturn seriously, a lot of layoffs in Calgary this time..?

Just saying, in 08 oil prices fell below $40 and everyone was flat out... A lot of slashing for a $50 barrel ?

In all honesty I would still be at the job I held before and would have been coming up on 2 years if they didn't start jerking me around and trying to change the way they wanted to pay us. I sat waiting for 3 weeks for work as I knew they were in between projects but they started offering the work to people who made less and who hadn't worked at the company as long. I got the feeling they were pushing me out so I decided to just leave rather than drain my bank account as Christmas was coming and that would have been 2 months off work.

Took a job running quad wagon tankers since I really didn't have to look for it as a couple old coworkers went there and I basically had a job waiting and I figured I'd give tanking a shot. Did that for a month a half before I got the call from my current company wanting me to come for an interview. I had applied there back In June and it was January when they called me. Couldn't say no, 40 mins from home, weekends off, moving oversize loads and machinery with a great company that treats there employees well. It's where I always wanted to end up someday.

As I was saying in a previous thread it's amazing how many tanking company's are slashing rates right down to nothing just to keep the wheels turning regardless of a profit. Even at my old job doing tanker work oil companies were coming to them saying this is what we want to pay now, match it or we'll get another company. They were going to start making us take a paycut to 20/hr on standby rather than our full rate of 36 since the oil company's were only going to pay 150 for the truck sitting waiting

Yeah right...the truck is making more profit just sitting there @ $150 than it is running down the road

That's what I told the current employees too. Luckily that change came into effect 2 days after I left but they all wouldn't fight it and just accepted the 20/hr standby rate.

PB is way more informed than I am, but what I'm thinking this is just a knee jerk reaction.

Mid Stream company's laying off people that work at the source of revenue... ? Bean counters in Calgary are trying to save themselves by cutting field jobs and rates from service companies... Nope, bean counters in Calgary surfin the net all day is where they need to bring out the chain saws...
